Emergency tracker.

If I had one, people would be getting calls all the time.....;)

I don't ride alone, so probably don't need it.

Me, too. If I had one, the EMTs would just be driving behind me.
"He fell again! Is he getting up? Yeah...he's ok....again!" :D

Not a bad idea. It senses the amount of impact, and if you don't cancel the app it will send a notice. I have CRADAR, but I haven't deployed it yet in an action situation. I believe that it would be a good application of technology properly paired with a knowledgeable user and receiver (person).

It got me thinking about what you could use if you were solo and not in a known place.
My misses knows where I am when I'm playing so if if i don't show by a certain time she comes and finds out why.
but if you didn't know where someone was, but knew they were overdue, an automated signal would be cool.
Sort of like an app for a smart phone. Stop every 20mins or whatever and switch off a counting down clock. If you don't it sends your gps and a distress call out to someone.

like the above but without the motion sensor.

Anyone seen anything like this?

Edited...
Just seen the link at the bottom of the page to the other posts about a 'spot tracker'

i carry my gps and spot connect with texting capability, however those devices are only useful if im consious and can press the SOS on SPOT or send a text were there is no cell service. it is kind of neat though, when i send my wife a text saying im running late so she doesnt worry about me or my crew it also sends our longitude and latitude at the time of the text.

I have watched the spot video, and can see a lot of uses.
For a solo rider though it really needs to be automatic after a given time.
Also that one is connected to a company (who I'm sure charge) and they call the emergency services.
Ideally something that contacted a named person, who could then call you and if no answer, the emergency services with the gps.

yes i agree that it has limited uses if you go unconsious but even riding with friends the response time has to be fast if someone is hurt and that is were i disagree. if we need search and rescue the response time isnt dependant on a friend or family members response and yes the fee is 100 a year but for me that is piece of mind because if i break a leg or an arm ill pay the 800 dollar helicopter ride to be transported directly to a hospital. my life is worth that!!

$800?? Are you kidding? Ten times that here easy, probably closer to $15K. When my leg was impaled riding with Cruiser in PA a few years ago the 45 min ambulance ride on the highway to the trauma center cost just under $700.

Nothing is free. Its paid for one way or another. Probably faster getting emergency care than elective care though.

Back on topic, thats an interesting device, but it should be able to be configured with several parameters of choice, not just an impact detector.

I just heard a story about a guy crashing over in east Tennessee on highway 129 (the one called the Tail of the Dragon, may not have the number right). Anyway, when the emergency folks were getting him out they found another sport bike rider that had been missing for several months. He was riding by himself and went off of the side of the road and no one knew where he was. This might be a better application for on road than off.

Up north you cant get elective care at all in some cases.. just ask guys who want to get scrips for CTI knee braces.. takes years to see a knee specialists.. unless you "need to see them".. and stick? what stick?? tree branch..

129, tail of the dragon,, FUN FUN road!! but most riders get in way over their head quick!! I did that off season in my jeep wrangler 2 dr, 34's and drifted around some of the turns till the wife got sick.. she made me stop.. it was raining and foggy.. I want to go back on my 450 with a set of 17's or my old 97 GG with 17"s! The little bikes could run from the bigger bikes on the tail in a lot of spots...

It looks like the countdown timer may be configurable, that would be a cool feature. You just need to make sure you can reach your cell phone before it goes. Maybe it has a cancel feature, too, in case you don't reach it in time but you are still okay.

This data is sent after a countdown clock reaches zero, so if you dropped the helmet accidentally, you can avert the emergency notification being sent using the app.

Depends in coverage, unless you live up here you definetly don't know what's going on, I booked my knee appoinement for cti's and was in in 2 days for custom ctis and they were ready for me in one week at NO COST. 3k covered under coverage

That's right, 800 bucks Glenn, you can get a sled flown out of revalstoke if your in a pickle for just over a 1000 bucks. And your right nothing's free we had this discussion in a previous thread but im quite happy I'm paying for these services!

I carry a spot off road and on road. I know 2 people that have used them when someone was badly hurt and a helicopter was there in 20 minutes looking for them.

Thats whats on the bill but thats not what they get. Insurance pays most after negotiation like all other services. I'll take a privatized competitive system any day. I'd rather pay for what I use than pay all the time for everyone else, but thats just me.

For a real shocker you should see the bills for low altitude medivac of diving accident victims(decompression sickness, air embolism).
