Thats whats on the bill but thats not what they get. Insurance pays most after negotiation like all other services. I'll take a privatized competitive system any day. I'd rather pay for what I use than pay all the time for everyone else, but thats just me.
For a real shocker you should see the bills for low altitude medivac of diving accident victims(decompression sickness, air embolism).
We have had this discussion before. I agree paying for what you use is a better option in theory. In reality a lot of people struggle to save for unexpected situations, and medical bills add up quick. Also the issues that arise when people can't afford it due to whatever reason. To deny anyone medical attention when in need just doesn't sit right with me. If we're going to walk that road we might as well start putting people down as if they were dogs.
On topic, fancy little device but I wonder how much you can customise it to detect certain impacts, time frames, etc. Are the medics going to respond to each and every activation, or are they going to follow up with some kind of investigation first? What if you have no network coverage? I think it might have some benefits but probably limited in the offroad community. Its definitely not a solution for solo riders. I think any time you leave society be it on a bike or on foot, risks increase ten fold when going it alone.
