fork seal change

gotta change overthe fork seal on one of my shivers (06 300)
looked over the zoke manual ...
doesn't look overly complicated
any tips or tricks I should know about??

I've read that you can run a shim around the inside of your fork seal to clear out any dirt that may be causing the leakage. it started leaking while riding on a indoor mx track. I believe my slap down landing techniqu was the culprit. Assuming I did this and there was dirt in there and the shim got it out of the way. Would pushing the fork up and down against floor provide enough umph to let you know that it was now sealing? Or would only find out after you took it out and slammed some good roots and rocks??

I tried the 35mm film negative trick on my kids bike for a leaking seal. I cleaned it all off and checked it the next day, still leaking. It was obvious it hadn't worked for me. But some people have had success. Good luck.

Buy a seal/bushing driver, from my experience the fit of the Zoke seals in the sliders is a lot tighter than the WPs, where a home made PVC driver works fine. Warm the ends of the sliders with a tourch(till its uncomfortable to touch) prior to removal and install, and use ample seal grease. You won't be able to use an impact socket to remove the base valve, due to wall thickness. A standard six point is fine though.

I got an all balls seal kit. One seal is pre greased the other is dry. no grease was included in the kit .... what is this seal grease?? any old grease will do or is there something more specific?? big ride this weekend ... hope I can pull this off!!

I'm kind of wondering that myself ...
The one with grease on it is black and looks like it might be the dust wiper but does not look like my dust wiper. the one with no grease is red. I've never had the forks apart so I'm going on the "it will make sense when I see what parts are in there" angle, and hoping it all makes sense when I get it apart!! otherwise I'll be working the classic and not riding it!!

your right about the pvc driver thing. Getting nowhere with the pvc ... gonna have to call around and find a shop that has a mechanic with a 45 mm seal driver if I want to ride Saturday!!
