fse 400 engine wsm?

hello. im an avid gg fan, love mine to bits, sm250. i have swapped trim to enduro n back a few times but i thought id get another one for the dirty stuff, been toying with the idea of a fse for a while and recently got hold of a half built fse400.
the seller told me he bought it half stripped and built it back up but never finished it. naturally i have stripped the engine down a fair bit to inspect it, clean it, and build it back up properly...
now, for some reason i cant find a workshop service manual that covers the 400 4 stroke engine. the one on gasgas website is a bit sparse. nothing on tolerances or torques or any of the juicy stuff its nice to have at hand when rebuilding an unfamilliar engine.

so... do any of you chaps know where or if i might find such information?

many thanks.

Hi Shifty,

I think the only difference is the piston diameter. I bought a rolling frame 400sm which I am busy fitting a DRZ400 motor in.

I got this one cheap enough so if the engine is shot to bits it's no big deal. Got a few other engines around the place I could graft in...
Mounting wise how similar is the drz motor? I've heard they are similar but never looked closely at one myself..

Hi Shifty,

The GG 4t is some what based on the DRZ . http://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/sho...ghlight=taiwan

The DRZ engine fits in the frame, the rear engine mount / swing arm pivot is in the right place but the DRz needs a sleeve in the cases for a snug fit on the GG swingarm pivot bolt.

The rest of the engine mounts need to be redone to suit the DRZ engine.

My project is a long term one as I do not get much time for bikes with a young family. I hope to do a build thread one day.

Regards,

Harry

That's good to know, I have seen a few drz lumps about cheap enough. I'm still hoping I can use the original engine. Figuring out what's been messed with is getting complicated, I found out yesterday that I have a 450 barrel and piston on my 400 engine... After buying a head gasket for the 400 haha.
