I,m looking for all info on the 65cc,how do they run can you get bike/parts in New England, dependability, anything please, even a picture? Thanks

I sold one. They have a Derbi engine and run real good. This one was an early one and they had ignition problems but the new stator has never missed a beat and the bike has been durable. Parts shouldnt be a problem as i ordered some stuff for stock and they had it back then.

The GasGas 65cc bike has a Derbi Engine? Like the one in the picture?
This is a picture of my Derbi SM50.
How about the GasGas 50cc SM bike. I am pretty sure it is not a
Derbi engine.... But what do I know....not much for sure.
I asked here a few weeks ago about the motor in the GasGas 50SM.
I think someone said it was a Minarelli. I'll have to go back and see.
Thanks for any clarification.

Where are you in New England? When I was at the only dealer (that I know of anyway) in New England, New England Dirt Riders in Chepachet RI not long ago they had a 65 up on a stand. What a neat looking little bike. It actually stopped me in my tracks on the way out of the shop and I had to check it out. Give em a call and see if they still have it. 401 567-9300

For a picture look at the Gas Gas USA web site. http://www.gasgas.com/cross65.htm

Hey steve. I have an MC65 '06 for my kid, and I know nickname:'brains' here have one too. We have been mailing quite alot regarding the MC65. We were trying to put together a gasgasrider wiki page on the MC65 but we haven't gotten around to it yet.

The MC65 is a very powerful mini crosser with a very distinct power boost when coming on the pipe.

The engine is definately a pre 2005 derbi engine, six gears. AJP hydraulic clutch. Marzocchi 35mm forks, one leg has compression dampening, the other has rebound.

I'll ask webmaster to open a MiniGasser forum section.

In sweden the prices for new bikes is the same as pumpkins.

Some spare parts are pretty expensive, especially piston/cylinders. But since it's a derbi engine, it should be possible to find substitutes. However I have not found the 65cc metrakit cylinder anywhere in the aftermarket shops, but 70cc cylinder kits are virtually everywhere.

Don't confuse the 50 and 65. They are completely different bikes. The "EC50 boy" is a "TXT Boy 50" trials bike with seats and moto tires. Motors are very similar to a KTM mini adventure, but unique to Gas Gas.

The "MC50" and "MC65" are Gas Gas/Derbi hybrids.

And for fun, there's the "EC50 Rookie" or "SM50 Rookie", whose motors were based on the "TXT80" trials, but in downsized EC frame.

Clear as mud?

Sorry, I am not trying to stir the pot of controversy here. I am just trying
to understand what motors are what.

In the end. My ultimate goal was to try and find a big bore high performance
cylinder and piston for the GasGas SM50. If the TXT80 cylinder and piston
will fit on the SM50 cases or not. And weather the port timing and
compression could be played with to move the power up from a torquey
trials motor to street useable HP motor in the SM50.
My knowledge in this area is so limited. I am trying to learn from you folks
that have already trudged through the mud on the path of enlightenment.
Thank you for all your help and guidance.

Soooooooo........ what was that ballpark price in the US? I did not know GAS GAS had so many mini-models!

No pot stirring.

Everyones knowledge on these bikes is limited. Even at the factory. It's almost as if someone is just slapping Gas Gas stickers on these without the factorys knowledge. Other than Jim Snell, I have yet to run into anyone who knows anything authoritive on a Gas Gas smaller than 125cc.

I think a central clearing house where those of us with experience with the Gassers under 125cc, trials, enduro or mx bikes, could get together and compare notes would be useful.

The trials guys probably have the most experience with them since the 50 and 80 have been around for a while in trails clothes.

Some "official" support for the minis out of Spain would be cool too.

Todd. I wish you could talk to Mr. Snell and invite him to join the Forum.
He would be a great resource for all of us here.
The 2-3 times I have talked with him on the phone. He has been a poster
child for the term, "Customer Support". So very helpful and generous with
his time. He is my "Go to" guy for everything on my girlfriends Pampera.
Like Mr. Cook @ Smackover. You better have your cell phone charged
up before you call him. :)
Thanks all.

Thanks bergerhag, my research continues.

Mark, Steve or Dale-- Please let Jim Snell know we'd like him to pop on here with some mini wisdom one day.

I know I'm kind of hijacking this thread and we haven't really answered the original question that started this thread...

But, from what I can tell, the EC50boy and MC50 have Franco Morini motors with Gas Gas specific modifications. I know my EC50boy is a Morini with Gas Gas mods. The EC50boy also has a Gas Gas frame.

The MC50 has what appears to be a Conti RX 50 frame and "Gas Gas-ized" Morini motor. The MC65, as pointed out by bergerhag, is similar to the Conti 65 with a "Gas Gas-ized" motor (Morini as well?).
Does anyone know if Derbi and Conti use a Morini for the 65?
Gas Gas has obviously modified the motors to "Gas Gas-ize" them.

I'm just guessing, but my bet is that the EC and SM Rookies have Gas Gas frames and Gas Gas modified Morini motors in them as well.

This is all conjecture and speculation based on wrenching my EC50boy, flipping through parts books and photos, but it's more than we have now.

Plus, all my drivel may get us a MiniGasser forum.:o

I am pretty sure Derbi makes their own engines.

A nice fact, the MC65 has a 65W lighting coil installed stock, all you need is a voltage regulator and some lamps. Maybe one could dual-sport it.. :D

oops, Sorry Steve. I believe I am the poacher that hijacked your thread
in the first place.
I tried starting my own thread awhile ago, but, it did not take off
like this one has.
At some point I need to call Jim Snell and ask him how to put a bigger
high performance cylinder on the GasGas SM50. Hebo may be the
source for an after market kit.
Thanks all for your insight.
Jeff, So. Cal.
