Gas gas ec250 road riding

I was just wondering if riding a gas gas ec250 on the road for short distances eg 5-10 miles at a time to get to greenlanes will cause the engine to mess up? I have some long straight roads to use until I get to the offroad lanes,I usually sit in 6th gear but speed up and slow in 6th to try and stop the engine from getting damaged.can the engine handle this or do you suggest shorter slower roads to reach my destination?

It shouldn't cause any issues at all, but isn't much fun.. Realistically there is very little load on the engine when cruisng down a hwy, and good air flow so now issues there... but holding it flat out at 9000rpm for a sustained time is going to wear the engine out more than required. I usually commute up to 15kms on the black stuff during a ride. It cruises pretty comfortably at 80km/hr in the region where its just coming onto the pipe and I use small throttle application rolling on and offf with the occassional clutch and blipping to add some extra fuel in.

I am in the process of dual sporting my 2010 EC250. 4 guys in my local dual sport club have dual sported Gas gas 2T's; 3 2011 300's, 1 2003 EC250. Mine will be the 5th.

5K miles of road and trail. Feels as good as when new. I figure if it has lights and a tag it was meant to be on the road at least some of the time :).

A buddy of mine lives 17 miles away. I break all speed limits getting there. Will cruise the 300 at 60mph a few miles at a time, never thought for a second it could hurt anything.

Remember what the creator said to Rutger in one of the best lines in any movie (Blade Runner)......"the star that shines the brightest only burns half as long".

We have "race bikes" that can be ridden on pavement, it would be a shame to not actually do what you want for fear of shortening it's life. Damage it, no, let's not do that but riding on the road at moderate speed will only put miles on it faster. I do vary my speed but Hell, I drive like that anyway! I never hold any of my bikes at full throttle for more than a few seconds anywhere and certainly not on the road. Been riding 2 stoke dual sports since the 70's, never had an engine failure! 20:1 baby! My 300 is at 28:1 and jetted for it.
Enjoy it!
