Gas Gas Handling

As I compare getting a new '12 or '13 KTM or a new '12 Gas Gas the one thing that Gas Gas supporters consistently mention is that the GG handles better. Can someone please explain what they mean by this? I currently ride a KTM and don't really notice that it doesn't handle well. Although I am comparing it with the Honda CRF250X I rode before it which felt like it was tank compared to my KTM 200 XC-W. I have ridden a '12 GG, but 30 minutes on a Gas Gas that wasn't set up close to correct for me didn't leave me wowed by it's handling. I believe the bike was set up as stiff as stock can be and I'm about 170 lbs. with all my gear on. I think the test ride probably didn't do the bike justice.

Nikes,
Do you ever notice on your orange bike that the front wheel pushes in flat turns or pushes over loose berms. Are you comfortable in ruts? Can you carry a high line on off cambers with roots? Can you change lines in the middle of corners easily?
Those are the things that a properly set up Gas Gas will do that most of us find you can't do on the orange bike.

Ahuh! The gasser just feels so natural in that you see the line you want to take and by the time you have thought about it the bike is already there.

I may not be much help...lol

But, I race a RM 250 at select races (where I need explosive power/wide open stuff/part of motocross track in loop, etc) and feel it handles great. Has 9oz flywheel weight & great susp..
As we know RM's are known to be some of the best handling/turning machines made to man lol.
I also have a 03 GG200 that I race and is setup for me and have/do race both bikes in the woods.
With that said I can carry a high line on off cambers with roots with the GG with confidence where as not so confident on the RM. Back to back in the tight woods is where the GG shines. I have not rode the new KTM's but most everyone has one in the class I run ha...it feels good not blending in. but getting back on topic, i told you I wouldn't be much help (go 4 the GG):D

i just bought a 2012 GasGas 300 XCR and couldn't be more happy with it. I've owned 4 KDX 200's in the 90's and didn't think any bike could handle tight trails better. I have now ridden the GG twice and i am very impressed with its ability's. I'm 6'2, 205lbs dry and i thought it would be severely under sprung for my weight. Not the case so far. All i have done is set the sag and ride it. The dealer i bought it from changed the fork seals because the ones from the factory are stiff till about 10 hours of break in. However i hear from other gg riders the factory seals are great (tho stiff at first) and after the 10 hr break in period they never leak. I'm not a fast rider but when i raced enduro i was a fairly successful B rider. Never a win but a few podiums (all on KDX's BTW). I am super impressed with the gassers' chassis. It just seems to be very well balanced. It goes where i point it period with no hint of head shake at high speed. I have no remorse buying the GasGas. I've wanted a 300cc smoker for years and drooled over all the KTM's i saw on the trail. With 2 rides now on the GasGas I've seen a few riders start salivating at the site of my bike. 1 of which was on a EXC 300. Fun stuff!
