Gasgas 310

Love my 300s and plan to keep them. But, I do notice that when passed at a it is almost always a 450 or 350 4t.

Not asking for a 4t, 2t debate PLEASE.

Looking for educated and experienced opinions about this prospect of a 310 GASGAS.

I am 5'10, 220lbs dry. 1st, 2nd 50+B at local hare scrambles.

I know about all the maintenance debates. I can work on either. Just wonder if anyone has experience on both and can consider my circumstances (age/skill) and can advise.

I changed bikes last fall from a 2011 Husky 310 to a 2013 GasGas 250 and I would say that I am faster on the 250. Both bikes had/have Rekluse. My regular riding buddies would agree with my "faster" assessment as well. I liked the Husky plenty but like the 250 more.

You're gonna have to ring the 310's neck just like the 300 maybe even more so going up against 450's.

I would either have the 300's engine modded, or get a 450.

I like the 310...great bike for tight trails, as soon as things open up the 450's will eat it for lunch. At least that is how it is out here in the desert.

Appreciate it guys. Kinda what I suspected. But, needed to hear it from someone that has actually experienced both.

Though in the hands of a talented rider...engine displacement doesn't matter.

I have some riding buds that ride 125's and school guys on 450's.... ;)

From all accounts I've heard both the husky engines 250 and 310 are quite soft off the bottom and need to be revved to get anywhere.

From another view point I spent a little time on a mates FE390 back to back with my EC250R and even that felt quite soft and while it seemed to pull clean and smooth and continue to rev right up well past where the 2T would have signed off it never felt that it produced anywhere near the same power. I'll have to get a ride on a mates 350exc at some stage.

Antoine Meo the Husky pro rider won on the 310 in like 2012 versus the 450's so on technical tracks the rider skills are huge (he subsequently switched to KTM and continues his winning ways).

Agreed on the gearing. The X-Lite Huskies are a close ratio 6 speed transmission. You really can't get up and boogie until you're in the mid range and in 3rd gear. They have nothing on the bottom so you have to make up time after the other guy has already gotten going. My 300 would leave the 250 in the dust and I doubt the 310 would have a much better chance. Before the Husky, I had a bored to 318 KTM 250 XCFW and it topped out around 75-80 geared the way you would probably want to ride it in the woods, so it was not a contender in a straightaway either. It was the perfect amount of four stroke power for the woods, though.

All that being said, people that pass me in the straightaways because of raw power and willingness to hammer the throttle usually get passed back in the tight stuff. I think you would like a 300-range four stroke for the nice compromise between power and weight, but it probably isn't going to win the drag races out in the open.

Totally agree on that. My buddy rides a kx450f and in the open stuff we can run neck and neck but I always over take him in the tight and rough stuff.
