Gearing. What are you running?

Length of chain determines wheel base. Not size of sprockets.

I run 13-49.There are areas that you have to ride it a little harder carrying speed in tighter stuff. But the wider gaps for climbing big hills without shifting and the warp over drive feature when you need it is well worth the trade off.

Having the chain more in line with the bottom profile of the rear sprocket and keeping the chain running through the rear chain guide instead of dragging across it is also a big factor.

To run the gears out longer has anyone experimented jumping the front sprocket or just lower in the back? 2011 ec300 six days

Any lower, and 1rst wouldn't have the momentum for some abrupt and steep climbs. Still has lots of legs for transfer sections

Gearing

On my 325 13/49 on my 300 13/50 on my 265 13/51 on my 250 13/51 on my. 200 12/52 I ride mostly single track in Colorado 5000' - 10,000

On technical tracks and woods I'm running my 250 with 13/52 or 12/48 which give exactly the same ratio. I do prefer 13/52 over 12/48 since front sprocket and chain slider wear is slower with 13. On the other hand, 12/48 gives you the nice opportunity to very easily go to 13/48 when riding fast gravel roads, but it's too much clutch slipping in slow technical terrain.

13-52 for New England roots and rocks.

I run stock 13/48 with a rekluse core exp on my 2011 Ec 300. I can crawl through the nasty stuff, and still hang with the fast 4 strokes ( and sometimes knife in under them in the corners) on the fire roads between trails. And the bike has more than enough torque, that I can carry a gear without wearing out my ankle or boots rowing through the gearbox! I topped out at 131 km on my gps when I first got the bike, not as fast as my 525 exc ktm that will do 160 kmh, but not bad for a 2 smoker bush bike!

When I got my 250 2001 it had 13/52 after changing to 13/46 I gained one gear extra I was able to use first gear in tecnical stuff instead of second before plus gaining more top speed. Each gear feels a lot longer and the power feels more controllable.
