Geoff Aaron rode to a 5th place in the Pro main event at the 2015 Denver Endurocross on his Gas Gas. Geoff was able to transfer directly to the main event via his win in the first heat race over Colton Haaker. Geoff looked strong and in control from practice through the main event. In the "hot lap" before the start of the main, Geoff had the third fastest time behind Cody Webb and Kyle Redmond showing that an "old" rider on a good bike could best Colton Haaker, Taylor Robert, and Mike Brown to name a few. Congratulations to Geoff and Gas Gas for a fine performance against a tough track and tougher competition!

1. Colton Haaker (Hus)
2. Cody Webb (KTM)
3. Taylor Robert (KTM)
4. Kyle Redmond (Bet)
5. Geoff Aaron (GG)

If Cody was on his Beta he would have won . Congratulations to Geoff Aaron one of my all time favorite riders , I hope he will stay with Gasgas in the future .

Possibly, but I noticed a couple if things throughout the day. I've seen Cody for many years here in Colorado riding both Endurocross and National Trials events. He's a great rider and seems to genuinely be a nice person, too. When I saw him during at this past event, he looked much "leaner" than past years as if he was trying to drop weight in order to be competitive. The track was very technical and it looks like he just ran out of energy about 75% of the way through the race as he started struggling with major obstacles. No shame in that as Taylor Robert ran out of "steam", too. Haaker, however, was clearly more aggressive and he charged from the start through the finish. He actually made more big mistakes than Webb that set him pretty far behind halfway through the race. But in the end, Haaker's comparable skill to Webb coupled with his fitness and aggression, were the keys to his win. BTW, the Beta didn't allow Max Gerston to hold off Geoff Aaron from taking fifth. Gerston is a great rider, but Aaron made up about 15 seconds over 5 laps to take 5th about two thirds of the way through the race. The Beta also did not keep Kyle Redmond (4th) from being lapped by the top three. Now, I'm not hating on Betas as I was pulling for them if Aaron couldn't win, but Haaker was truly the class of the field for the Denver track!

1st #10 HAAKER, Colton Perris, CA Husqvarna 16 01:10.326 --.---
2nd #1 WEBB, Cody Royal Oaks, CA KTM 16 01:12.412 00:18.567
3rd #33 ROBERT, Taylor Scottsdale, AZ KTM 16 01:09.283 00:14.571
4th #7 REDMOND, Kyle Lake Hughes, CA BETA 15 01:19.208 00:50.780
5th #4 AARON, Geoff Temecula, CA GasGas 15 01:10.816 00:09.672
6th #15 GERSTON, Max Scottdale, AZ BETA 15 01:20.593 00:21.776
7th #3 BROWN, Mike Bluff City, TN Husqvarna 15 01:21.927 00:16.297
8th #575 THOMPSON, Nick Alpine, UT KTM 14 01:20.536 00:21.632
9th #200 RHOTEN, Eric Montrose, CO Yamaha 14 01:22.288 00:10.081
10th #8 ABBOTT, Destry Peoria, AZ Kawasaki 14 01:23.355 00:22.816
11th #114 TREMAINE, Ty Gardnerville, NV KTM 14 01:20.522 00:06.362
12th #696 KEPPLE, Noah Alpine, CA KTM 14 01:38.107 00:47.210
13th #177 CARVOLTH, Mitch Scottsdale, AZ KTM 12 01:40.447 02:25.582

From the results it looks like the KTMs of Thompson, Tremaine, Kepple, and Carvolth weren't able to catch the Betas, nor was the Husky of Brown or the Kawasaki of Abbott or Rhoten's Yamaha... maybe they - Redmond and Gerston certainly, but any of the rest of the riders really - should just buy a special Husqvarna like Haaker's or a special KTM like Webb's, and then they'd be able to compete for the win. There may even be a few left over GasGas' around ...

The analysis would have been more useful if you'd mentioned the trials qualifications of the top guys (perhaps excluding Roberts) and reconciled it with the type of course raced in Denver.

As it is, the top ten points standings for the series with 4 rounds remaining are

1st - CODY WEBB #1 - ROYAL OAKS, CA1st4th2nd3rd1st2nd 139

Sorry, Mr. Beane, I'll try to do better next time. Thanks for not pointing out my typo, too ("if" instead of "of").

Eric

Does anybody know if he'll be racing at the Boise EnduroCross this weekend? I'd love to go support a pro Gas Gas rider. :-)

Geoff at Boise

Yes, Geoff will be at Boise this weekend. I was hoping to make the trip and support him but had to cancel..:(

He would love for you and anyone to stop by and introduce yourself!

I suspect Max Gerston isn't quite fully recovered from his broken hip (cracked iliac crest). A trailered boat he was riding in as it was being taken out of the water fell off the trailer. It threw him out and came to rest on top of him. He had surgery and a nice long set of staples. He was back racing in an unusually short amount of time.

That would account for his two less-than Max finishes a couple of months ago.

I'll be at the Boise EnduroCross tomorrow! I'll be wearing a red Alpinestars shirt, and ref running shoes to show my support for GasGas and Geoff Aaron!
