GGOR Questions : 2T Electric Start Specs & Direct Injection

I expect to purchase a 2011 Estart 250XC this fall. On the US site http://www.gasgas.com/ec_end_2t.htm, there is only some generic info posted. When will the 2011 Estart specs be available?

Can you give us any idea where DI developement stands? I assume due to the recession, it's now lower in priority. Any idea how many more years before it might be available?

The site sited belongs to the previous importer. Don't expect any updates to specifications (or much else besides the trials side) there.

The estart 250 and 300 are supposed to mimic the base ECs, the specs of which are published on the factory site http://www.gasgasmotos.es/en/enduro.html

As for DI development (or any new feature), you can run down this checklist:
* is it implementation ready (package/function/cost/supply)
* does it represent a true or perceived competitive advantage
* can we make money selling it
* does a/the government require us to have it
* are there better/cheaper/faster/better looking alternatives we can offer
* will we lose customers by not offering it, or gain new ones by selling it
* do we hold the intellectual property rights to it
* can we protect it
* are we too busy working on something else at the present time
* will the product the new feature is planned for have a long enough life to justify the change
* ......

My bet is we'll see DI ... "soon enough" ;)

I also looked on the European GasGas site http://www.gasgasmotos.es/en/enduro/332-ec-250-cc.html
The bikes there look more XC than EC due to the lack of a mount for a plate and no signals. These items were shown on the Euro bikes in the past. I'm assuming that the Estart bikes will be the closest to an actual EC model, but with the road items removed. I'm hoping the headlight might actually be good enough for a night ride in the woods.

I think what bankrupted omc was years of making crappy motors, boats, etc.

Bombardier has done quite well with DI on the outboards and snowmobiles.

Can a guy order a 250 2t with the TTX front and rear?

THAT....is a very good question. If I was buying new and had that option available it would be a no brainer.

Clay, what can you do for the guys wanting TTX on a 250?

Neil,
I have been promised that I will have full specs on all of the models early next week and will post them here when I get them.

CEO Ramon Puentes told us when we were in Spain that Gas Gas was working on DI. It is a high priority, I believe, to meet Euro emissions requirements. Honestly, I have no other info.

Guys,
Ramon said we could order "special request" models for the US with enough notice if we wanted to but I have not done that yet because I am still discovering what we all want. I need a little more personal seat time to find out what I want. I already know that I want a full rear knob tire rather than the FIM tire. I also know we need a bigger tank. Honestly, I have to see how the sales go on Race/Six Days models compared to the standard models, too. Dealers tell me we need to be competetive with the orange brand. All of these requests drive the price up so I need dealer input for higher end models. I will prolly not ask for anything special this year but be fully ready for a US spec bike in 2012. I got to crawl before I can walk!

are there 200's coming to us this year? i would assume the orange 200 is a good seller, and i would think there is definitely a market for them.......i've ridden both, and the gg 200 is hands down the better bike...

I am new to GasGas myself having just purchashed my first, a new 2010 EC300. I love the bike it's awesome! Having someone on this site and and being the man for us is icing on my cake. Can't wait to read the specs on the new bikes, thanks.

Clay...an FWI for ya

Go Fasters begged and begged and Clarke finally made a 3.2 gallon tank for the 07-09 bikes. However in one of those years (08 or 09) GG decided to change the coil mount location so some tweaking needs to be done I'm pretty sure for the tank to fit (should fit the 2010 and 2011 bikes also with tweaking but talk to GF to see).

You can still fit a Motosportz damper with this tank. Others may not fit.

Oh, make that a really fast crawl will you please:D Actually, straight to sprinting would be better:eek:

Stainless,
I ordered both the 125 and 200s in Race and Six Days versions.
I did not order very many of them so tell your dealer that you want one asap.

John,
I'm the man? Cool! Does that mean you'll buy me a beer?

Ski,
LOL!!!!!! I'll do my best on the sprint. :)
Jim Senecal told me last week that the big Clarke tank would fit if you used the old shrouds and heated the tank up in some area and bent it there so it wouldn't rub. Can't remember where he said to heat it. I think this is not acceptable. I want to send a bike to Clarke to have a new one built. I have plans to talk to Spain about how they want to do this.
Thanks for the info.

Diffidently dump the FIM tire. I would think it would be better, cheaper, if GG settled on a few models. Like two. I think buying in bulk would be easier. Do a base model with some of the people in the USA want/need. Like the 2011 bikes. I personal think they look/have want I want. Sure...I would like to add a few things but they are personal things. Then go right to the cream of the crop high end Nambotin Replica style model. I would skip the middle models. Have a hard parts catalog for the guys that want more.

DI would be awesome! No screwing around with carbs. If it runs like my sled, it'll be awesome. I think this will have to happen to meet the strict Euro emissions rules. You'll have to have separate tanks. One for oil and one for gas. The oil is sprayed into the crank. Fuel into the top. I wonder if they'll have exhaust guillotine... If I was GG, would try to work something out with bombardier.

Here's a motor Boyesen was working on some time ago.

These are exciting times! I spend way too much time thinking about my next gasser. :D I can't wait until a great dealership is in my area. Please happen...please...

You got it Clay you are the man and yes I'll buy you a beer. Heck after changing the rear tire on my 300 GG I 'll buy you a beer truck. This thing rocks.

Please make sure that Clarke (or other supplier) is given an Estart bike for mockup. It looks like the 07-09 tank will hang down too far to clear the starter. The 12L capacity will be great for long trail rides.
