going from a kx500 to an ec300

Hello, I am new to this forum and I know everyone on here is probably sick of the usual "what is this bike like" thread but I guess when you don’t come across gg that often then you need to ask around to find out some info.

Now to my question... I am going to purchase a new bike within the year and I am beginning the research for it. I currently ride a kx500 that is set up for woods riding. I never ride moto and love tight technical trails with a lot of climbs (not that I am good at them). I love the low end power of my 500 because it runs like a tractor up anything. The only reason I am looking for something else is that I sometimes race hare scrambles (well "race" is a bit of a stretch for me) and the old 92 kx500 is getting hard to find parts for. I am only concerned with how stepping down 200cc. Does anyone have riding experience with both bikes that could give me a comparison?

Thanks for your time

Do yourself a favour and relegate the old 500 to the attic with the platform shoes and take your eyes out clackers, Having spent a couple of years racing a cr500 and recently riding a kx250 framed kx500 I'm telling you there is no comparison. the 300 is lighter has a much better quality of bottom end power, more usable midrange, less vibration ,less gyro effect , handles a million times better, is better built, ect , ect, ect.

I know the kx500 is old school (same design from 88 - 04).:) It can be a pig in the woods compared to smaller 2t however i ride slow enough for it not to matter yet (I am trying to change that). It is nice to hear that the low end power is comparable, that is what I want, I do not really care about a lot of top end.

i rode a cr 500 for many years now i ride gas gas 300 now i can feel my hands again

I must be one of the few guys that doesnt notice the vibs. Of course I rarely ride any other bike so I probably just think it feels normal or I havent stoped shaking since I got the bike.:)
