Good beginner bike

that looks pretty cool.. last year there was a video of a yamaha "tricker" that lookd alot like that.. i think it would be a blast...

Looks like GG is competing with the Chinese market by the hideous looks of that thing. Beta used to make an entry level trials bike called the "Alp" and they offered a "long-range" kit for it that replaced the stock tank and seat with a larger set-up. It looked much nicer than this thing (and in person).
WTH:confused:

Open up your mind man, just because it does not appeal to you does not make it bad or ugly or cheap. it is VERY obviously a trials bike with a seat, which being a Gas Gas is a good thing.I have a gas gas trials bike and had a pampera( which i would not have sold except a close friend really wanted it).Not everyone is a AA enduro rider- and many of us female types have to chop the hell out of a true enduro( like i did to my EC300) in order to not be high centered over every bump.

I've been to Salida CO if that's where your talking about but don't have a house there. In a year or two I plan to have a cabin in the San Isabel forest in CO.

Why do you ask?

I'm meeting Gasser next week in Salida to buy his EC300 and he mentioned his friend that he is going to visit and ride with lives there during the summer, just seemed like coencidence.

Don't misunderstand me. I used to ride trials also and still favor the GG over the others. And I'm not even close to being a AA rider. I'm strictly a recreational rider. But at times I do ride hard (in my mind!)
One of the problems of the Pampera was Intermediate and better riders would buy them and ruin them because they weren't built to handle strenuos off-road riding. Then they would bi** about the poor quality of GG bikes in general because of their experience.
This bike appears to have a Chinese made engine (someone correct me if I'm wrong). It doesn't even have a full perimeter frame (the engine connects the forward half to the rear half of the frame).
Anything more than logging roads and it doesn't appear this will hold up well. And will again get negative reviews because of it.
Show me a long-range kit to put on one of the REAL trials bikes. Then I'll be impressed.

How is it different to the old XR200s which had the engine holding the frame like this gasgas?
Its being marketed as a trail bike, similar to an xr200, ttr etc. What is wrong with a chinese made engine? its all made under license and quality control conditions anyway. The husky/BMW 449 is made in taiwan

I don't think these are available in the US but it would make a great beginner bike or a goof around do all bike.

This is called the Randonne. It has a 125 air cooled four stroke Yamaha engine in it. The Japanese GG importer asked GG to build this for his market. GG decided that this should go to the trials importer here in the US and he decided not to order any. Not sure that I blame him. When my nephew Rod and I were over there in early June they told us that they may build one with a larger engine. I might be interested in bringing them in if they will let us. The seat can be taken off and made to be more "trials like". This bike would probably be ok with shorter riders but it is no way a full off road bike.

I hear a lot of times that a manufacturer should build a cheaper entry level bike for new riders. I disagree. That is what the used bike is for. I do think there is a market for a new bike for vertically challenged riders, though. We may tackled that project with the factory in the future.

That is a very cool beginners bike and it's also good for the trial sport, as many riders dont buy a trial bike coz it's a one purpose bike + there is no seat on a trial, this bike offers a true dualsport trial bike, you can ride it everywhere and in two seconds the seat is of, and you can ride trial, snap the seat back on and ride it back home..
Just like the pampera, It will never be a real trial or a real wood bike, but you can do both on it, and the design is pure genius, the pampera had the trials engine and suspension, but this also have the shape of a trial bike, ones you snap the seat off.
I'm not sure what that engine is, but i was hoping for a bike like that with a real trial engine, but if it's true it is a yamaha, and it sure looks like the one on my sons ttr90 and that engine is really strong, amazing what that bike can do.. but it is a really heavy engine, so.... I'm still hoping for that bike with the 2stroke trial engine...

Ok a 125 four stroke is probably not truly useful for serious trail riding at 8500 ft, but i appreciate all attempts to serve a greater number of riders.
Personally i would love to see a Pampera size "real" bike come along - especially if it was a Gas Gas. I agree about better riders buying the Pampera and then griping- I over rode the Pampera, that's how i tore my shoulder up:o. But the size, weight and power of the bike were perfect, I just needed more evolved suspension. It was not the bikes fault. My friend who bought the Pampera from me is a very slim-she will be happy with it for a very long time

Think how many Honda CRF 230s are out there, I see them everywhere so somebody's buying them. Electric start and smooth power in a smaller frame and street legal in most states and green sticker in CA. They are great beginner bikes and after about a year the rider graduates to a used or new serious bike.

Is the Pamp 125 still a rebadged Reiju Tango ? The Tango is more or less a copy of the cool but expensive Yamaha Tricker, and was built with 125 and 250 4t Loncin (Yamaha copy) aircooled engines and also a Minarelli 50cc 2t. At one point, the tie in between Rieju and Gas Gas was that Reiju built the Pamperas for Gas Gas, and Gas Gas built the EC 250 and 450 with the Yamaha WR 4t engine for Reiju.

This is more like the old Pampera which was more like a trials bike. The '02+ Pampera is like a lower, light duty EC. In fact my wife's '02 250 Pamp uses mostly EC plastic. What makes the '02+ Pampera great for a beginner and/or especially a casual female rider is also what makes it limited for an average and above rider. Its simple, you make a VERY light bike for a cheap price and durability is compromised. The frame is mostly absent of any gusseting, and the rest is all trials components. What makes the Pamp different is while having a lower seat hight than the ECs, its still a full size bike unlike the Honda CRF230, which I'm sure weighs more. I'm helping my son's friend go through a used Kawasaki KLX140L with estart and that feels at least as heavy as the Pampera lifting it on the stand.

I agree with Clay, I don't think they need to use resources on something like this for the US. Any beginner is not going to know what a GG is anyway and 9 out of 10 will hit Craigslist or ebay for a used Honda to test the waters.

That bike is awesome. It would be great to have as a spare for the wife or someone starting out.

If the price was right,, that little 125 would be sweet to kick around town.. run to the market.. out to grab a bite,, run down a quick trail etc.. I like the yamaha tricker 250's.. and the scorpa T-ride.. but that kinda went as fast as it came..

Its amazing how good a professional rider can make a bike look. I watched a video of Ivan Tedesco going around a motocross park on an XR650L, he made that bike look amazing. He was out running everyone and using the horn and blinkers.
