Hammerhead Shifter bolt

I bought a hammerhead shifter lever a while back finally got around to trying to install it last weekend. They included an allen head bolt. Problem is the allen wrench contacts the engine case, I can't seem to find a configuration to make it work. Anyone run into this? Seems like from the pictures they should have included a capscrew which would have make this easy. Have an email out to the company with no response yet.

Just use an 8mm or 10 mm head M6, like from the stocker. I put one on a 125 and had no problem, probably why I do not remember what bolt came with it.

Problem with that is the bolt they provide is "necked" for in between the halves. I tried very quickly to use a different bolt but it didn't seem to fit on then. I can't remember if the shaft is all splines or if it necked as well, ie so then I could put the lever on and then the bolt...

My 07 shaft is all splines so I put the bolt in the shifter before it goes on the shaft.

They must have moved the bolt center closer to the shaft then, as the GG shafts are all the same with straight splines. Probably based on a Jap bike part. Could you start with a new high strength M6 bolt and grind a releif for the shift shaft? Malke a couple spares for your box and fanny pack? Not much torque on that so it should be fine, plus you still have the circlip.

Should there be a circlip on all bikes even the older ones as mine hasnt got one on and hasn't since I've owned it.. I've ended up safety wiring mine on as it's fallen off a few times out on the trails, and it's not a pleasant few hrs walking your track trying to find a shifter!!

My '03 ec250 uses the circlip. Only way I could keep the hammerhead lever on. Went to the hardware store and bought three sizes, and one of them fit. Now I have a whole box of them with all different sizes. The new countersprocket only has the circlip holding it on.

Whats a little annoying in the garage can be a major PIA on the trail. If it were mine I'd make up a couple special bolts and call it a day.

Circlips have been on GG shift sharts since the beginning.

I got my HammerHead shifter yesterday.
Originally, when HammerHead made the shifters, the bolt went in from the bottom. To fix them, they drilled out the threads that were on the upper half and tapped the bottom half for a bigger bolt that can be threaded in from the top.

For 2011, Gas Gas moved the footpegs closer to the front of the bike. The OEM shifter is too short for me. I measured my 2007 foot peg to shifter distance and the 2007 bike has a 1/2" greater distance.

The shifter bolt is grooved out for the shifter shaft.....

Installed the shifter this evening. What a pain that allen bolt is to tighten.
You know your boy had to come up with a solution.:D

I took an 6mm allen wrench and cut a 1" section off, stuck the 1" section into the allen bolt and used a 6mm wrench to tighten the bolt. Problem solved.

Added said tools to my tool pouch for possible trail side repairs.

G, i had been looking at the hammer head shifters / break pedals since ripping the rear brake off the KTM, are they worth it for "crashers?"

I had the same problem when I installed my Hammerhead shifter. I had thought about making a tool. But in the end I removed the chain, front sprocket cover and front sprocket .That made tighting that bolt a simple affair. I was thinking about ether getting a stk KX brake pedal or a Hammerhead. All I know is the stk G.G. one is going to get me killed.
I am really liking my shifter though.Well worth the money!

What's wrong with the OEM pedal?
I did put an earlier pedal on my bike, the one with the folding tip.

I need a longer wider pedal . I find my foot to miss the brake . The last time I went riding I went for the rear brake and wasn't stopping . I looked down and realized my foot was down with out a brake pedal under it. :(

I like stuff small and tucked in. I got that checkpoint pivot, and did not like how it moves the brake out. Well, yesterday I cleaned the pedal off on a rock.

Yup that is exactly what I ended up doing. Kind of a pain considering if it was a cap screw there would be zero issue.

We did what GMP suggested, and ground a relief into a cap-head bolt to make the process easier for the long haul. Have two 2011 bikes with the HH shifter, and really like the product, but the allen head bolt is a bad design for the Gasser!
