Have a GG but I might have a problem

Ok...purchased a 2005 GG on Saturday. Got a good deal. However I am confused. Owner listed as a 250. Title says DE200. VIN reads EC200. Engine leads me to believe it is a 250? I am so very confused. I am thinking one of you guys should be able to help me sort it out. Either way I am not really concerned, just want to know what it is. Bike runs great, I am very pleased with it. I am going to clean it up and freshen up everything and get it completely sorted.

VIN VTREC2000F1044053
Swing arm PN BE250112002
Cylinder head cover PN ME25-20916000
Transmission area PN EC25 0104037183

Porte. A. or Dorte. A.

Hard to tell what the signature says but yes there is a signature there. Looked like a special part but can't find anything on the innerwebs about it.

Counterbalanced...hmmm....well I can lug it down to trials type of maneuvering without it stalling so maybe. But it does run like a mofo when spun up. I have rode a KTM 200exc and this has way more power than a 200 IMO.

The EC25 above the serial number on the engine would indicate that it is a 250.

And yes, the ignition side cover is back pre-2000 or so? 1999?

And having the older counterbalanced motor wouldn't be a bad thing - unique and kinda cool... Better tractability and "smoothness" at the cost of acceleration. Good for old guys like me. :)

If it's a 2005 chassis, the counter-balanced motor wouldn't fit without frame mods due to the "hump" on the older cases, right?

And, the spark plug is straight up and down, weren't they angled in the early years?

If you look at the other side of the engine it has the newer GASGAS logo. So I wonder if it is counter balanced and has an older flywheel cover. I acknowledge the flywheel cover is the older logo but the other cover is newer.

Back to IDK what I have??

It appears to have some goodies though...radiator guards, pipe cover, aftermarket pipe and silencer, PV cover that I cannot find on the inner webs. The chassis is newer and the forks are Marz Shivers...so those are prob period correct for 2005 as well as the Ohlins rear.

Thoughts???

Maybe one of you guys can decode the VIN for me....most of the VIN decoders I used did not like the fact that it was a Spanish motorcycle and would not decode it correctly.

I would like to get a USFS approved spark arrestor for the bike. What can I get? With other bike models like the YZ plastic fits the GG? What does everyone recommend for something that is a little quieter and USFS approved? Does anyone have one they want to sell???????

Looks like a 200 frame with 250 motor

Well that's what I keep coming up with. I know the GG community is pretty close knit like the other "exotic" bikes and wondering if anyone on the west recognizes this bike or has any knowledge of this bike. I bought it from Phoenix and the owner before the person I bought it from is from Phoenix as well.

I would just like to get as much history as I can about this bike so as to be able to take the best care of it I can.

Later cases (not sure about these) are unique between 200 and 250/300, but as Jeff said the engine number seems to indicate the bike started life as (and may still be) a 250.

The only way to know for sure is to open it up, but if it runs as well as you say just leave it alone and have some fun :)

Also:
The 200cc engine cases are machined down where the cylinder bolts on so there is a second step. Easy to identify if you know what to look for.

I looked for a stamp and did not see anything. I thought the part numbers I listed might help out, but I don't have a clue how to decode them at all.

just went out and checked my 2005 mc250 which should be the same as yours, swingarm number is same(as im sure same for many years)
my cylinder head is same as is a spare hi comp head I have(you have a "2" where it is actually a "3")...yours shows the same as mine in your pics--->
ME25-30916000
my transmission shows EC25
0505093193

im not an expert, but if I had to guess, you have a 250,just may be a 2001 motor,i also notice you don't have a v-force reed spacer, my 2005 has a v-force spacer...may explain the older ign cover, dont sweat it,just enjoy the bike, they are all great motors and a lot of us are upgrading plastic to keep the older versions looking new!

Are there any other photos that I can get that will get to the bottom here.

And, I guess I don't know what I can buy...I need a skid plate and a silencer...I don't know what model to buy for...or are they all the same?

The vin is for an 05' 200. Which is the same chassis as the 250 and 300 of that era.
So any chassis stuff, if it fits an 05' 200/250/300, it will fit your bike. Silencer and skid plate included.

The engine is definitely a 250, the year is a bit more difficult to ascertain. If you pull off the stater cover, you will know whether its an actual old school motor (pre 00' I think) with the counter balancer, or a slightly newer engine (00'-04'?) with the counter balance area not machined completely.
