Head squish ?

Hello, I'm getting ready to send my 2013 EC300 head, off to RB Designs for his squish-band adjustment. Just wondered if there is anything I need to know about taking the head off and putting it back on, also draining the coolent, torque for the head bolts?

It's easiest done with the tank out of the frame, but you can do it by simply pulling the shrouds for access. Drain the water at the pump and if you're careful when you remove the water junction on the head you won't need a new gasket (IIRC the fiche has had the wrong part number for that little guy for years) and you can leave the hoses attached.

Having large enough diameter solder is important. RB spells out what type to get, but you may need to twist some together if the existing squish is larger than the diameter solder you're using. Take two or three samples. Snug is OK on the head bolts during the measurement process since you're not compressing a gasket.

This is a really decent mod for the money and I think you'll be happy you did it. Good luck and post back with any questions.

If you end up needing a new gasket for the water tee, call Gofasters and they will ensure you are getting the correct one. The fich calls it a "thermostat" gasket. Its obviously is not part of the thermostat.

I don't think anyone anywhere has been unhappy with a quality squishband mod. You will like the improvement. Especially the way it adds consistency in your search for jetting nirvana. Its worth twice the price for that alone.
 
Thanks for the information, I'll order some gaskets just in case I need them. I have about 5 hrs on the bike now and am really happy I went with the Gas Gas, its a super great bike.:D

No slight intended when I mentioned the competition a few states over. I was just stating my specific experience. What I should have said is to call your parts source directly to make sure you get the right gasket in this specific case.

Well I just now got around to have RB Designs do my head and carb work, and have all the gaskets here. What is the best way to get the two cyclinder-head O-rings to stay in place so I can get the head back on:eek: any information would be GREAT.

I use 3M spray adhesive.
You have to "pre-stretch" the o-rings to make them fit the cylinder.
 
A bit of grease can help, but they are a stupid size & stretching them carefully 1/2 doz times is the only option.
