Got to ride a little today. I've come to the conclusion the only thing worse then a fresh hedge ball is a frozen hedge ball.

So ya'll have them in Va and Pa? I thought it was a Canadian thing...

Yeah they are all over in SW Pa. We used to throw them at each as kids haha. Old timers say they repel spiders so they put them in their houses and basements/crawl spaces.

I didn't know about the spider repel.interesting.

hedge fence

Looks like someone put up a link to a picture. I've seen cows get them stuck in there throats, and had to call the vet. My mom who is 91 said her dad and his neighbor planted hedge for fence. They took turns every other year trimming it. If you keep it trimmed down it gets so thick animals can't pass thru it. The trees have small thorns on them at least compared to locust, still hurts if you hit them. Were in Missouri.

Shit....the Hedge Balls are getting closer and closer. At first, awe it's in Canada, I'm not concerned.....then Pa....then Va.....and holy crap now in Missouri! LOL

I've been all over Ark and E.Okla and have never noticed them. I know all about those skinny wrought iron like Black Jack Oak trees......

Well before he decided to add his location, I was going off his name.

I love Canada! Especially B.C.

Never heared of em

From new england and lived awhile in FLA + GA never heard of em
How do you hit em if theyre in a hedge? I would think hitting a regular hedge wouldnt be a great time either???????????

had never heard of them either... a tech here at work is from Missouri.. he said yep, sees them all the time there... he also said his neighbor here in amarillo tx has some also...

been here my entire life and have never seen them..

Theyre in TN too. The wood is incredibly hard and will ruin a chain saw blade very quickly. I have heard that the wood is used for wood mallets/hammers.
We had a mountain bike trail near some of them and had all kinds of flats from them. We finally routed the trail away from them. THey are called Mock Oranges here too.

They are round, so they may roll south. Maybe if we threaten to bring some hedge down south you'll take these armadillos that have been showing up here back. They (hedgeballs) fall off the trees and cover the ground, I see squirrels eating them, maybe deer too. I've seen people trying to sell them on e-bay with pictures of this beautiful hedge that grows up. They don't tell you it has to be constantly trimmed like any hedge. They sure make your front wheel jump around when you run over them.

Who would've thought "hedge balls" would provide such fine online entertainment:D I showed my wife the very first post...she has a dirty mind.
