Help - 2007 EC 200 jetting

chucky

I have read evrything regarding jetting on this forum , the problem is I live in South Africa and have limited access to the different needles described in this forum . The local Gas Gas agents recomend and use a needle that canbe purchased from KTM agents - N3EH , however I dont think this needle works well in the 200 , but I might be wrong that is why I am posting to get advice !!
I have also tried a N3CG needle which is a little better but still not perfect , I know that it is richer on the straight portion and half a clip richer on the taper . I think these needles are too lean on the 1/4 to 3/4 throttle range , also when I do a plug check it is black and wet ( this confuses me even further .

Altitude : 1600 m above sea level ( 4000- 5000 ft)
temp : 40 -60 deg fahrenheit ( winter ) 70-90 deg fahrenheit ( summer )
currently in winter

The humidity is low and quite dry especially in winter

I use 95 pump gas unleaded and premix ratio of 40:1 full synthetic oil ( GRO)

My setting with the N3EH needle was as follows :

N3EH # 4 ( at #3 and #2 there is a bog or slight hesitation when giving throttle from low RPM's in the midrange , WOT there is no problem )
Main jet 170
Pilot jet 42 ( cant quite get the airscrew correct and idling was not great - settled on 2-21/2 turns out
# 6 slide
float level is correct
plug was black and wet with these settings , My feeling was that mid was lean and top rich

N3CG 34 ( also hesitation in the mid when cranking the throttle from low rpm's with #3 and # 2 clip positions )
main jet 168
Pilot jet 40 , airscrew 13/4 out , idles better now but not perfect

This setting is better but I still believe it is not the best , Please advise me ,I am limited with needles here , I can get the JD jet kit but will take a couple of weeks , would this work?

Who do I buy the needles from , I have dropped a mail to Les at LTR a couple of weeks ago but I have had no reply .

Where can I purchase the CCL , CCK , DDK etc needles from?

Those needles can be purchased from Sudco International

http://www.sudco.com/

What size is your carb? Seems some guys are having better luck with the 36mm carb.

Also it never hurts to e-mail JD Jetting or RB Designs for help/suggestions.

JD Jetting has great prices on slides and complete replacement 38mm PWK Airstriker carbs. Not sure he has the 36mm available but it never hurts to ask.

I have tried emailing James Dean , but I keep getting a " returned to sender "

Has his email changed , I got it directly from his web page

So last night I went through all my spares from previous bikes and , hey , what do I find , two LTR needles that I purchased from Les in 2004 .

I have the LTR -0 and the LTR -1 , now all I need is some advise on what settings to run for a 2007 200 .

Please all as much advice as possible would be appreciated .

altitude 3000-4000ft

temp 60-80 F

slide #6

PWK 38mm

fuel 95 pump gas oil ratio 40:1 GRO synthetic

humidity low

Thanks in advance

Go right to the source and e-mail Les at LTR Racing. I'm sure he can advise you on those 2 needles and if they will work in the 200.

I have emailed him already a couple of weeks back to actually purchase needles , but he still has not replied , I got his email from his web page .

I bought some stuff from Les a few years back after someone told me to forget email and call him. He's one of those people who don't do email very well for some reason. But he responded readily by phone.

+1 on the phone call. i called him about some suspension stuff a while back, called three or four times, and he was always available and willing to talk. definitely worth your time, even if the call is expensive.

Hi Chucky (or anyone who can assist) sorry to rehash this old thread but I just got a 2007 Ec200 for the mrs, she idles ok-ish but the revs drop after 10 seconds and then she fails to idle at all, there is a constant bog in low (0 to quarter) throttle position. from there on she wakes up and sings quite nicely, all be it hellishly thirsty on juice (6ltrs per 50kms).

currently on:
N3EH #3
175 main 42 pilot
1.5 turns out on AS
slide #7
plug is black and wet (fouling plug every 3rd ride)

I`m keen to find out your best setting as I too reside in South Africa and the real life experience could help me sort out the bike as this is the first 2T (and only carb) bike in the family I`m a little out of my depths.

For a start do the float level, search on this site. As1 carb if black screw cap carb top.
Then pull out the pilot jet and blow through it until you can see daylight. Smallest is easy to blog if left to sit with premix.

Plugs should last a year.
