Help me identify my EC250 '01 forks, and witht hat, the default fork clicks

Hi Other Gassers.

I found this forum when searching and searching and searching. I cant seem to find any specs/default settings for my 2001 Gas Gas ec250.

From what I can gather, it may be WP forks that came with the 2001, and an ohlins in the back.

1) Can someone help me identify my forks?
2) Can someone help me with default clicks for the forks and shock?

P.S. Gas Gas website does not have a manual for 2001.... and my dealer says to use 2003. For all the other stuff, 2003 manual seems spot on, but the total clicks in the manual does not correspond to my total fork clicks.

Pics to follow. P.S. I have a 300 barrel and 2001 plastics on the bike, so don;t lat that confuse you :-) Its a 2001 frame, by frame number.

Thanks chaps.

They look like the wp forks my mate had, as it had a plastic clicker on top and the zokes use a screwdriver type adjuster . We sort of found out as he got the wrong fork seals and broke the plastic bit off and after searching the net we discovered they was wp

2nd on the WP forks from the 2000-2003 era. Model year 2000 bikes could also come with standard type Magnum 45 forks or 43mm WP inverted. Ohlins forks were also an expensive option upgrade on the early 2000 and on bikes.

Thanks so far chaps. Any idea on the type? (mm), or other way to identify these specific WP's?

P.S. How is the mm measurement taken? 40mm, 43mm, 50mm forks? I thought it was the stantion length, but mine are not even close to 40mm...

Off topic. Is that 2011 plastic? I would like to see the whole bike. It looks nice
And I guess I have been misinformed I didn't think GasGas got inverted forks until 2003

Long version, here... (apologies if the forum owners take offence that I link to another forum. It is a local biking forum in my country, where I uploaded a whole lot of pics when re-doing this bike..)

I have the same WP 43s on my 01 300, I just set the adjusters in the middle and went from there. Strangely there seemed to be a different number of 'clicks' from one fork to the other, so I'm assuming they need to be rebuilt/cleaned out!

Just measured and they are indeed 43mm in width.

Now, does anyone know where to scratch out default clicks... cant seem to find much on google for "2001 WP 43mm forks settings"

What a story! I have one very similar. But mine ends with getting stitches because a piece of the piston in my new 450 come through the cylinder and cut my leg. 20 minutes after I unloaded it for the first time!

As for fork settings start in the middle and then adjust to your liking. Also didn't the KTMs of that era have the same forks? Maybe you could go that route to get some info

Thanks Memphis for the links. I've been to that thread. No mention on default settings unfortunately. Got other threads with guys sharing their setup's, which is nice, but still not the default. I would like to start from default and work my way out from there.

From expererience, default is normally not in the middle.

On other bikes, default are normally just under half for compression, and just over a third for rebound.

I am not sure if I could/should look at the KTM side of it, as I've read that KTM and WP did a "custom" deal or something tot aht effect. I wonder if ktm fiddled with the valving or some other settings especially for their product...

Thanks for all the info thus far!
