Hey guys I need some advice never dealt with a bottom end before.. My ec 250 2000 has fuel mix in the compartment were the fly wheel is..diagnosis? Can it be fixed without splitting the cases?.. Also what is the big half circle lump of metal just above the flywheel to the right? I presume some sort of counter balance weight? Also should there be any up and down movement when wiggling it? its less than half a mm but im presuming worn bearings and im figuring this is where my rattle/knocking is coming from.. Any help with the matter would be appreciated thanks luke

maybe you could temporarily fix the mixture in the ignition side by trying to pry out the old bearing seal and replacing with a new one but with the up and down movement of +- 0.5mm, it could be about time to get a full rebuild.
the knocking you hear could allso come from the clutch basket, i have the same.
the guys say it's kinda normal :-p
if that knocking sound goes away when pulling the clutch, then it's not that big of a deal they claim here

and the half circle lump will probably be your counter balancer indeed.

ciao, hannes.

your eng may be older then 2000 dont think they had counter bal in that yr im thinking 97 98 and some 99 had it only i may be wrong tho i would consider a full rebuild if its got a blown crank seal it could do more damage to your motor

Thanks guys kinda confirmed what I thought.. :( I think the crank seal is from when I tried kicking the bike over with an air box cover on.. Daft I know..forgot it was on there :( how would I date my engine?

There should be some markings on it ...i'll try and have a look at mine and update you

someone must know something looking at the parts list it looks like the counter balance shaft is driven direct from the crank by a cog held on with a woodruff key and nut.. if i remove the cog will the counter balance shaft slide out from the fly wheel side??? and will i then be able to change the bearings and seals?

To anyone interested you do not need to split the casings to remove out put in me counter balance bearings/seal you just nees a heat gun and some thing to knock them out with.. May take 10 mins with the heat gun but beats splitting the cases for no reason. I made a slide hammer up using a bit of pipe a few washers and a raw bolt which was enough to pull the bearings right out with a bit of heat.. Anyone taking this task on and wants more info im more than happy to help.
