How to Repack Silencer?

Hi All,

My 05 EC300 is my first 2T, which has never had the silencer repacked and feel the need to do so after finally getting my bad spooge issues cleared up... assuming silencer is 50% spooge/50% packing by now! Anyway, I've never repacked a dirt bike silencer before. I've scoured the site for instructions/guidance on how to repack but am still confused, especially on what to repack with. My bike has the TurbineCore2 silencer, and the FMF website has repacking fiber for <$10. However, several guys recommend the Moose Racing "cartridges", which are about 3 times the price as FMF. Moose Racing also has about a half dozen other repacking options, too. Will someone tell me the advantages of the different types of silencer packing (price, weight, longevity, etc) and which is truly best for the GG 300 2T motor?

Also, any photos of what a properly repacked muffler should look like (before reassembly) would be helpful for me.

Many Thanks

I await the different techniques.

For years I have used Home Depot fiber glass insulation matting cut to size. I have to change it about twice as often. I would never use it in a screen-type spark arrestor as it would log up within a couple hundred miles or so. ;)

I also use house insulation fibreglass the type u find in your attic...

Im partial to silent sport. lasts pretty long at least the season. Pretty simple to remove and repack.just don't over stuff it.

Just use the FMF or even RM for 2T. You really don't need to spend $30 or $40. You want to take off the end cap and pull the packing out along with inner silencer . Put the new packing around the inner silencer and push back in. You will probably have to re rivet the end cap on , unless yours have screws that screw in. It's really easy and pretty simple once you take it apart.

Thanks guys. I opted for the FMF brand "Performance" (red) loose packing off Amazon for $12 shipped. Plus, I bought some high-temp silicon sealant to reseal the cap. Looking forward to gutting the pipe and cleanin'er out! How long should the packing last considering I'm an average rider in a dry climate typically on slowish technical singletrack? Once a year or more?

Next time I may give the Moose repack cartridge a try, especially because it claims 5 times the longevity (for 3x the price). Thanks again!
