I get so friggin' tired of this crap.....

I made a (hopefully objective) post in that thread as well. There is definitely of lot of orange-ade drinkers over there that have no experience or knowledge from which they speak. But it's like my daddy always said, "son everyone has a right to their own opinion, no matter how idiotic and ridiculous it might be".:D

I'm not going to bash on KTM though. I owned 4 of them and they all were great running, highly-reliable bikes. Like any bike they all had little issues here and there to deal with, but I too see KTM now as another manufacturing behemoth that has all of mankind to attend to. I originally went orange because they had the product and they were not too risky an investment, but now if you own one you are just one of the crowd. Problem is that crowd now includes all the same type folk we used to associate with the Japanese owner crowd. I choose to be different and we are lucky that there are quality, lesser known alternatives out there like GG. I'm all for GG prospering and growing, but hopefully they will never be fielding a motogp bike. :eek:

Many people will say what they want to believe rather than look at the facts and objectively make a choice or some will make up their mind and then search for supporting facts to back up their choice while ignoring the unwanted evidence. Having a dealer close by might be a deal maker or breaker for a lot of people. If it doesn't bother a guy to mail order parts then IMO a Gasser is a better deal.

I just got a new 300 KTM EXC - very happy with it so far. I find it very funny how serious some people get over their brands etc - similar to Nikon vs Canon, BMW vs Mercedes, Mac vs PC - list goes on and on. My next bike might well be a GG again - I like having the choice. Both are great bikes - bottom line. If it puts a :D on your face when you ride, I don't care what name is on the side of the bike.

Agree,I go riding with a varied group of bikes,even quads on occassions.We have in common a love of riding in the dirt & forest,not what we are riding.Sometimes people forget this.
Can't fault the KTM 300.What was the main reason for choosing the KTM?

I rode a demo and it just felt great in stock setup - also good dealer support.

You betcha! The KTM 300 is a terrific bike as is most all the KTM line. And its great to have a choice. I agree wholeheartedly with youse guys.

The b!tch I have is with people talkin' out the butts about something they don't know jack about and thats why I started this tirade to begin with. :cool:

What would you know Etienne,you have a KTM so your gay,& mine has more power bands,& KTM's are real slow & stuff,they always blow up & have no linkage I don't know what that is but I HAVE ONE & you don't,& they are made in Austrialasialand & thay have crap engineers,& I smoked my mates kids SX50,& Gasgas rules cause it has 3 more letters than KTM,KTMKTM would just sound dumb,gasgas has cool stuff on it cause the sales guys said so & he said the motors are made by chongchin in China so you can't get parts but you can order a mean beef blackbean & rice from your dealer.

LOL! Do you have the red power bands or the green power bands?

Or you can get a Gas Gas and it will just turn. Most of the KTM sheep think their bikes are perfect because they've never ridden a better turning bike. I was at the WY National Enduro and Bruce Dalton, owner of Motoadventure Kawasaki and now a GG dealer, won his class. He told me he never won it until he got on the GG. He introduced me to the guy who got second in the class but who always won the class when Bruce was riding a Kaw. That guy told me his next bike would be a GG.

I'm a friend of bruces- that man HAD green blood!
You can't imagine how happy it made me when out on a trail ride with him(when he took a Kawaski) he says"I wish i brought my Gas Gas" .

Jeanette,
You helped convince him! Thanks!
Clay

mmmmm ...blackbean & rice.....can you get that in a pie?

gg3, I don't see any flaws in your reasoning, but your punctuation sucks...have you not heard of full stops followed by a capital letter?

:D - I will probably be at Muriwai this Sunday - obviously a waste of time to ask who wants to ride with me! ;)

Yeah, I'll be there too. I'm interested to hear how you find the KTM compared to the Gasgas. Did you sell your Gasgas in the end - I saw it on Trademe and wondered if you managed to sell it?

When your this worked up there is no time to breath.
If I could make it to Murawai I would hijack your bike as soon as you made a 'pitstop'.An honest comparo of the bikes would be nice.

Yep, its gone :( New owner very happy (he got a bloody bargain!). Look for a double cab grey silver Toyota ute with "Alto" on Sunday - should be there just after 9am.

This debate has gone on for years... I raced a 94 YZ 250 through 04 [HS &MX].
Zero injuries on the YZ.
In 05, I was on a 00 KTM 300mxc ... Bike was difficult to turn at speed and I hit a tree = severe shoulder separation/dislocation & collarbone broken. Assumed that the problem was that the suspension [Bruce's Terrain Tamer f&r] was set up for a heavier rider [20lbs] at the time [never was a problem for me before with Jap bikes] and had the correct springs installed. Never could get comfortable with the suspension and large frame size [I'm only '5"10] and realized that my 82 Husky 430 turned better.

I was offered a smokin' deal on a 01 GG 250xc and the KTM became the garage queen.

Last November in Baja while pre running for the 1000 .... 3 broken ribs and several bruised ... the bike? KTM 450 EXC! I had the same feeling on this bike as my 300 .. Big "feeling" frame with suspension that makes me feel like I am sitting atop the Empire State Bldg and I don't like the "action" of the PDS. I must add [to be fair and balanced] my GG was actually set up for a rider 20-25lbs heavier than me, just like the KTM's.

The KTM went up for sale to fund my daughter's CRF 150.

I was wrenching for a team at this years Perry Mtn 24hr Challenge [we won the Duo Class] and didn't really have time to talk with the GG team [BTW-Great Job Guy's!] but did spend several private moments drooling over the new bikes, especially when they rode by our pit.

Score card over 30yrs of riding/racing [excluding bumps, bruises & age related issues]
Jap bikes = 0 injuries
Swedish = 0 injuries
Austrian = 2 major injuries
Spanish = 0 injuries

I love my 01 GG and it has kept me racing. I really believe that it is a better bike than the KTM [ I have ridden quite a few in the last few years, same issues] and it turns as well if not better than the newer Jap bikes that my buddies have. The suspension was set up by my buddy Mark Klien [Hyperformance Cycles - Atl.], and on occasion I miss the "grunt" of that 300. I can only imagine what the new Gassers are like, maybe one day I will find out!

Moral of my long winded story?
KTM's are bad MOJO for me! :D
Now that RC8 ..... Hmmmmm

wrench you described exactly how the KTM's feel to me; sitting up on top looking down on the world hoping I can make the next turn lol. We no longer have any KTM's all GasGas, Husky, and a TM thrown into the mix. lets just say they don't "fit" me either. Good report.

I have to give KTM credit. 5+ years ago around my neck of the woods KTM was almost never seen in the woods. They changed from white to orange and managed to make them as popular as Harleys. It was some pretty good marketing. All though KTM's like H.D.s now are full of sheep. And the prices are through the roof. I picked up my used G.G. for a $1000.I felt it to be a great deal. But if I was looking at a KTM 300 I would have paid twice as much! Personally I hope the world doesn't figure out G.G. is a better bike.We might have to start paying KTM prices and start dealing with KTM sheep. Instead of the old,broken,and half blind unique folks we have come to love ...:D

i will be selling my gasgas to buy a ktm.
i cant buy any blue anodized clutch and brake master cylinder for my gasgas but i can get the ktm ones without any problem.
those parts, as well as anodized radiator guards, makes the bike so much better.
plus some gasgas are red and some blue....who has the cash to buy complete matching gear and helmets for both colors? not me. and again, this gives you a huge performance edge.
plus its like a post i read on streetbikes. a guy had a suzuki m109r but sold it and got a harley and said one of the advantages of the harley was that he 'instantly got 5,000 friends'.

Not sure if you are serious about your post? But, if you are worried about fashion and not function even buying anodized parts won't make a better rider out of anyone!
