I need some seat options. USA.

I recently tore my seat cover on my 2011 300ec sd. I was looking for a replacement anyway since my seat feels like I'm sitting on a diving board. I use padded biking shorts but that's not enough. I'd like a tall seat with a gripper cover. Anyone have any experience with aftermarket seats for these bikes?

Good Seat

Talk to SDG USA at 949-752-5227. I have worn out knees, and really like a longer distance between the pegs and seat. I am 6' 3'', 35" inseam.

SDG does not offer seats for GasGas, but if you make arrangements, and send them your OE seat, they will build you a very good seat, to your specs. SDG's seats have better covers and water-resistant foam. I have been running their seats since 2007.

Turn-around was about 2 weeks.

I just installed the MotoSeat cover I got from Steve at Plus One Performance on my 2012-300
Very high quality and it looks great.

That P3 pipe guard sure looks sweet too ;)

There are a couple different options for seats/covers. MotoSeat has a pattern for the 2007-2011s (thanks to Mark Robinson) and we can get the cover in plain old black or with different colors/materials for the top and sides. The 2012+ covers are available in single piece or multi-panel, while the earlier model years mimic stock.

Guts also sells a variety of covers to complement the different densities and heights of foam they offer. Let me know what you're after and the ball starts rolling.

This is my Gut tall soft seat. Its not a gripper. I don't like gripper seat covers because it tends to feel like sand paper on my tender areas during a long ride/race.

Hey Stu, i see a bolt on the top of the seat, is that a 13 seat on a 12, if so, did the bolt hole line up?

The fastener in the seat points in different directions in '12 and '13. Here's the short form on how to make a '12 seat attach like a '13 (ie top down fastener).

* sharpen the point of a screw the same thread (but longer) than the stock seat bolt
* drive the screw up through the seat foam until it stretches the seat cover
* carefully poke the tip through the seat cover, then remove the screw
* flatten the tip of the long screw or grab a replacement
* insert the screw through a large fender washer and then through the seat cover and into the seat base
* install the seat and add a lock nut on the bottom
* admire your handiwork

Now if i did this wouldnt I need two tools and hands to take off the seat? one to loosen the bolt on top and hold the nut on the bottom? I'm not understanding how this is better

It holds the seat on quite firmly.

My seat is already held on quite fimly with the nut coming into the seat from the bottom. the only reason I would want the screw on top is if I had a captive nut on the bottom so i didnt have to reach into a muddy fender to take off the seat. But the way its described it sounds like you would still have to reach up under the fender to hold the nut when you take out the bolt. This sounds worse than the stock design unless I'm missing something.

Do you have a 12' or 13'? I have heard on here that on the 12's some guys had alot of problems with the seat just randomly coming off. Mine came already modded by my dealer(Plus One Performance)so I do not kow what it was like in stock form. I would say, if yours isn't giving you problems then leave it be.

I used a locking washer, and then I took a piece of milk jug put a very small hole through it and put the bolt through the frame into the very tight milk jug plastic piece. So say if it comes loose, I'll feel the seat loose but the bolt will still be there. Plus I put Teflon tape on the bolt threads too. I don't think its coming loose.

Yes, my 2012 seat came off and broke in half. 12 seats are on back order, so I need to get a 13 seat and hope the hole in the fender hole lines up or rig it somehow.

That's what you want to believe - I think everyone here that modded a 12 seat thought the bottom up fastener was tight before the ride

The thing that was usually missing was the seat itself, unless you got lucky and caught it between your knees before it went skittering down the trail.

Plastic being what it is, and gravity being what it is, when the seat base on the 12s flexed the screw loosened (and continued to do so) until the it fell out, the tire spit it off into never-never land, and the seat wiggled out from under your bottom. If you don't like removing the nut from under the fender when its muddy, try a bit of tape over the pocket. Then you can pull the tab and reveal a clean, mostly dry nut.
