A couple of years ago, I purchased and restored a gasgas xc 200. after getting the bike all dialed in ,some prick was nice enough to break into my garage and steal it. he was also kind enough to pick up my gear bag on the way out. (bonus!). I had about $2500 in the bike and about $1000 in gear . not wanting some scumbag to ruin the one thing I love to do,I went out and bought a new ec250 and replaced my gear,to the tune of about $6000. so between what I lost, and what I had to pay to replace it, this was about a $10,000 swing. I called my Homeowners insurance company (allstate) and they kindly informed me that, if I look at page 12 of my declarations,it clearly states" all motorized vehicles intended for land use, are EXCLUDED" now they were ...very happy to pay for half the price of my gear ,after depreciation of course, and then.., promptly raise my premium! sooo... the moral of the story, and what I would like to share with you , is this, DO NOT assume your homeowners insurance wiil pay for your stolen bike, it WILL NOT!. it would probably cost you about $ 75 a year to take out a separate rider for your dirt bike for fire and theft, DO IT! I left my house for about an hour and came home to find some crack-head had cut the lock off of my garage and made off with my bike and gear. please get your bike insured ! the cost is peanuts compared to replacing your stuff. this is your wake-up call!
