Hey guys, I have an 01 xc300 and have been destroying my rh boot, I bought the yz kick starter , new, for a 00 or 01 yz250 and the spline on
my 300 is smaller than the spline on the yz kick starter. any thoughts ?
I will post up some pixs this weekend, just wanted to get you guys opinion.
thanks in advance

I don't think it's the kickstarter destroying your boot. My guess is that you are hitting the boot on the footpeg when you kick the bike over.

My right boot is a little chewed up and that is why I think it is happening. It's not enough that it's an issue for me.

yes... it where i am hitting the peg with the shorter kicker.
I have lost a pretty good chunk off my boot. My hips are gone with arthritis and I try to point my toe out, but it is just not working.
thanks guys, i will get the later model.

I have the same kick starter on my 07, and not only is it a better length, but it is a better design than the stock one as well. It's sealed on top so dirt and moisture doesn't get in to the pivot as easily. If I have to replace my 2010's kicker, it'll be a YZ one going on.

I put one on my bike,I had the short stock one which was good enough to easily kick my 300 but wearing out .Really like the longer yz one though as I never come close to whacking the footpeg.Highly recommend for that alone ,now just to see how it holds up

Also I got it from honda east toledo for around 75 bucks-cheapest i found anywhere and it shipped fast

Turns out mine was missing ball and spring. I fixed that for @1.50, so far so good, although it took some patience to get the damn thing on! I ended up using a 7mm socket to hold the ball/spring in place and then slid it over the kicker arm. Without that I may have burned the damn thing down!

No matter now though. I am in engine rebuild mode. Seems I may have toasted the crank. Like they say, "If ya aint breaking it, ya aint riding hard enough!"

Thanks for the replies all!!!

got a 07 yz kickstarter and when i put it on my 07 ec300 it slides back and forth on the shaft. the splines dont go all the way through like on the GG one so the bolt just tightens up on the shaft but the starter will slide back and forth. Any of you all run into this

Yes I found the same thing. Effectively creates some slop, likely will destroy the shaft at some point. Oh well.

If I had slop in a shaft due to a change in a kick start lever I would be looking to use a spacer on the shaft between the case and the lever to take out the slop. Many motorcycles use a spacer in this area. An "oh well" is likely $$$ down the road where a spacer made up even from a hardware store spacer stock ground/cut to the right length is maybe $2. Just my .02.

yea my buddie is a mill wright so we are going to make a spacer and also take the slack out of my brake by installing a bushing. One of my friends owns a moto recycling place and has a 250f kick starter on his yz 2T and he has a bunch of the 250fs but they have the same machined area on them. so is there a yz kickstarter that is splined the whole way through that needs no mods? I have had the bike for two weeks and have rode it 28 min and have lost multiple bolts broke gas cap and broke brake lever and never went down. I hope when i get it all fixed and go over bike it is more faithfull in the future.
