Hi guys, may be a stupid question but...
Is it best to put a few miles on a new tyre to scrub off the waxy stuff before the start of an event ?The reason i ask is going to an event on sunday and i think the first test will be on a wet grass field.
Thanks for your help ..Ewan..

I would think that if you know how the tire performs (ie it is not the first tIme you are using it) the sharp edge willbe better at cutting through the grass into the soil below than a scrubbed tire. If u have never used the tire before then it would be more beneficial to you to take it for a spin.

I have entered race with tires based on recommendations and have found that I needed to change my whole style of riding to suite the tire and prob would have done better using my old worn tires

That said, there are guys who swear that all tires need to be scrubbed before they reach optimal grip, I generally run my tires way into the red so any new rubber feels awesome - guess I should race more often!

Thanks guys, i know the square edge of a new tyre offers good bite but if you have a roadbike you will know how slippery a new tyre is till it gets scrubbed in. Think i will just line up and give it max !(may have to pick myself up and start again) lol
