I have a 05' ec 200 and am looking to get a little more "overall" power from the bike. Please dont throw rocks at me but I am looking for ktm 200 beans!
I have had ktm's and must say gassers are superior machines!
Just want to know if anybody has any knowledge 1st or 2nd hand of porting/head mods and where to get them.thanx in advance-ricardo

Are you sure there's much difference in power between KTM & GasGas?
Often it can simply be how the power is delivered. The favourite enduro bike mag in the UK often dynos the bikes and often remarks that some bikes that feel slower actually produce good hp it's just that they've managed to make them smooth. I imagine if you get a blueprint job done - i.e. align and smooth ports and set squish you'll get an overall improvement but I'd stay clear of changing port timings or anything radical.

Of course the easiest way is sell it and get a 250 :)

ec 200 hp?

thanks iancp5, but it pains me to say the gasser does lack in the motor dept! deception has nothing to do w/it.
Ride both bikes back to back at 8000 or 9000 ft elevation and the diff is clear.
selling it is not the answer right now. I have it set up well and cant afford a new bike . SOMEBODY HAS TO KNOW SOMETHING!!!!

The compression and squish are set up "loose" on the bike. Your relatively high altitude riding magnifies the effects of this.

To set the squish and compensate for altitude on your compression -> send the head to rb-designs; Look in the technical articles section here for instructions on how to measure the squish and compression. Let him know what altitude range you are running at.

What pipe are you running? What jetting?

For porting, there are few people who I will let touch my motor in an "intimate way"...

1. Ron @ RB-Designs
2. Les @ LT-Racing
3. Slavens out of colorado...

more hp!

stock pilot ,out on the air screw, neddle dropped 2 clips(clip goes up/needle down)main reduced to 168
these is my jetting for above 7000', at 3000' to 5000' I run a 176 main all else stock! The altitude quip was just to demonstrate a diff. like 2 bikes are equally fast in the flats but point them up a big hill and................

has anybody used a power-now on the 200 and whadyuthink?

I was told the Doma silencer makes a big difference off the bottom. Also, if its a true EC with the big flywheel thats a lot of total inertia for a 200, considering the lower end is based on the 250.

I would experiment with jetting a bit more after getting the head modified, and a little more compression won't hurt at your altitude either. Even at sea level, I've found the torque to go a little flat if the bike (250) is on the lean side. Like Jeff said, contact Ron at RB Designs and ask his advice on mods considering your conditions.

Powernow is a waste of $$ IMO based on experience with my '03 250.

on my '02 I pulled the squish down to 0.8mm & cut a bit out of the head to bring the compression back down (went too far with the squish set to correct ~0.8mm). So more comp & less squish, very nice. Run a LTR jet kit. NZ spec bike has Messico pipe. I also removed one base gskt. Didn't seem to pull top end down.

Like the power very much. Can dominate it rather than it dominating you. Prefer it to my friend's EC250. Too 'Rorty' in tight conditions for a pleb like me.

Also rode ~ 02 KTM. liked it a lot as the power Hit in an exciting manner (good for wheelies). But wouldn't say there was more. Felt a little peaky. Owner got off my bike praising the real nice power (& suspension).

That's my impression of the difference too. Not much in total power just different delivery.
