Nasty!

90 minutes of racing in singletrack slab.

Man that's a rough way to break in a new bike! I finally got to ride my '10 300 about 50 miles thru the rocks of Eastern KY yesterday and am very happy with the bike overall.

So what are your thoughts on the front forks and what settings do you have the clickers at?

I havent started messing with the clickers yet, only set the rear rebound a little slower. Just prior the race i fitted stiffer springs, and I didn't have any time to try it out. So, perhaps tomorrow I'll go through some suspension setup. I rode i on a very rocky trail last weekend and it felt very harsh, but that was with stock springs, and I'm 250 lbs/115 kg in riding gear...

My impressions from yesterday were the same. The forks soak up all the little stuff (especially roots) like its nothing. VERY smooth! When it comes to the larger stuff however, it "spikes" at mid stroke. "Typical open cartridge fork reaction" says a friend of mine, so we're planning on a suspension setup day later this week but regardless, I'm very happy with the bike!!!

I am finding the smaller bumps and square edge bumps a bit harsh on my 300. aM thinking of putting my air-cells on, only thing is i will need to enlarge the tiny bleed screws to take the jap air-cell conections.

anyone else tried using aircells on a GG?

Me too. Found out that it might be a fork misalignment problem. The axle clamp was nearly 2mm off. Ride reports to come.

How do you sort out the re-alignment issues. Find the whole front axle a bit of a strange setup with the allen head nut that seems more like a cover

the allen nut is putting tension on the bearing inner races.

What I did was remove the handlebar, loosen upper triple clamp bolts, loosen the right hand side axle clamp bolts, unscrewed the fork caps and lifted the fork to its fully compressed position.

I then lightly tightened upper clamp bolts, tightened the axle clamp bolt in its new position, loosened the upper triple clamp bolts, extended the fork and reassembled the lot.

I know there is another procedure for this without opening the forks, but I already had them openend to measure oil level.

Fork binding

If I'm putting the front wheel back on, I'll:

- Put the axle through
- Snug the right axle clamp
- Tighten the allen head nut/cap to set the left side wheel spacing
- Tighten the left axle clamp
- Loosen the right side axle clamp
- Put the front wheel against a wall or block and compress the forks as far as you can get them to go a few times without using the front brake. This allows the fork tubes to space themselves to their natural position to avoid binding.
- Tighten the right axle clamp

Wes.
