Muffler hits rear brake line????

OK I weight 175-180 sag is set right and for some reason the top of my rear brake line is worn through the plastic covering. Their have not been any major crash's to change the location of the muffler. It has not worn through the brake line yet, just the plastic coating. I have a leo vince muffler coming so I will take a look at it and see if I can make a fix.

Wile were talking about exhaust, my pipe is loose coming out of the jug and makes a horrible vibration sound when letting of the throttle. Anyone have this problem and have a fix? Back in the day I had a kinda stretchy rubber thing that I would wrap around the exhaust port and as it would heat up it would swell up and seal the pipe, but not like a silicone. Does anyone know what that was called?

Ha. I remember that stuff well.:D

You can take some RTV silicone and put it on the cylinder outlet o-rings and reinstall the pipe and let it dry. Make sure the cylinder spigot bolts are tight.

muffler hitting

this may not be the same as your talking about but my buddies rear tire was hitting the muffler so he put a couple washer behind bolts that are on muffler to space it out.

450's were that way and i just bent the metal end at the MC so that it had clearance, not sure if yours is like that but its an option.

OK so today I ratchet strapped the rear wheel and there is NO WAY it's the muffler. I will look into this mystery during the week.

Where abouts is the brake line being rubbed? Up near the engine where it doubles over the master cylinder, or back towards the calipers?

This thread is useless without pics ;)

I believe this is caused from abrasion where the line rubs the swingarm and hose guide. I noticed it is doing it on my son's bike, too. My theory is that every time the swingarm moves up and down, the line works back and forth through the guide. I have a different brake hose on my bike with a hard cover on it and it doesn't have the damage my son'd bike does.

Haven't looked at my GG 300. But it's a really bad problem on the Huskys. So bad guys were complaining of the brake line wearing a groove in the engine case.

Mine brake line was touching the engine case also on my 510 and I used a tie wrap to hold it from rubbing.

Thanks for the heads up!! I just went and had a squiz at mine and noticed I have been wearing away at the case, aswell as a small area on the swing arm back towards the caliper (this I was aware of)..

It was an easy fix by loosening the 14mm on the top of the master cylinder just enough to move the line away. You can see in one of the pics where the metal stop is on the top of the master, and this is where the line was originally. Theres a good 10mm clearance or more from the case now, where it was previously touching the whole time.

Glad I got to this one sooner than later!

Viton o-rings are much more durable than the silicone OEM parts.

The stuff you were thinking of was called "Chamber Seal"

For the brake line, on my bike I have zip ties binding the line to the plastic guides, so no slippage. Another thought though, I once saw a break line take a real beating from some brush stuck in the wheel before it was dislodged.

Mine are zip tied to the guides aswell. The problem was direction the line was pointing.
