I bought it last fall for my 15 year old son, first ride out the motor stopped running, the rod bearing went out. I received some encouragement here to fix it, and my son agreed to work on it with me, so I decided to fix it provided I can for a reasonable amount.
I called the local dealer in Broomfield, CO and he wanted over $200 for just the rod kit. I emailed Bob at North Tahoe Motorsports, and he got me all the parts I needed for just over $300. After 30 hours working on the motor, plus some help from a friend with a press, we got it running.
We took it out and it ran good, but the tires were very old, hard, and knobs coming off. It didn't take long for him to figure out the powerband, and he liked it. I rode it too and liked it, much different from my WR426.
We put new tires on and took it out again, after 1 long uphill section, he said "that was the most fun I've ever had on a bike!" Before this he was on a CRF150 and was pushing it to its limits.
In summary, I am sure glad we fixed this bike rather than getting something else. My son is very excited about riding, and I am looking forward to riding it too. Thanks to Bob, I recommend using him for parts.
