New bike prep

I thought a tank of gas with a mineral based pre mix was better for ring bed in?

It keeps the frame from being like a piano string. Some of the pro's bikes are build so as the fasteners come to torque within 1.5 turns from snug. Maybe I am just being critical. Most don't do it.

My '07 fits together very well. My '00 had to have the linkage and swingarm installed with a rubber mallet. My '03 could have used a shim on the swingarm. Never any frame reliability issues though, the '00 is still running around today.

so in other words if you don't shim there is a chance that as you crank down on say the swing arm bolt you will also pinch the frame in a bit there by creating stress on the frame? Frame then being under tension so to speak might not function quite like it should??

What do you use for shims?? flat washers? and where do you put them on the swing arm?? Just wondering as my swing arm is off at the moment and there did not seem to be much room for anything when I pulled it off.

I put the shims where the gaps are. You have to think a little not to preload the the thrush flanges on the swing arm pivot. My bikes have all been very bad in this area.

Just a quick note - did my first tire change a little while ago and was pleasantly surprised to see normal rim locks in both tires.

Just an FYI I had my forks revalved/resprung after getting beat up for a couple months. Ian at Rider's Edge Suspension did the work and I'm really happy. When he delved into the forks, he found 0.46 springs and stiff valving, resulting in a setup meant for a 195 motocrosser. We went to 0.44 springs and way softer valving which has definitely helped. I tested the forks in the rockiest race of the year and it was a huge improvement over the stock setup.

Speedy is that a Racing model you have now? .46 springs:eek: What did the shock have? (If it's a Sachs it will be a mystery spring unless you have a spring tester. No markings...yeah, way to go Gas Gas:rolleyes:) Ohlins will have a clear marking on the spring.

Who the hell is specing suspension for Gas Gas these days? Nambotin? Nobody seems happy with the stuff out of the box anymore so part of the wonderful GG mystique is now missing IMO.

.46 would be good for maybe a 300 ponder but really that's way to much spring.

Glad you got your forks done Steve...I wonder if you would bite the bullet and get em done.

Should be all gravy now.:D
