Just wanted to say hi to all and say what a helpful site this is. I just bought a 1998 gasgas ec250 at a price I just couldnt turn away from. Its a great first bike but i do have some questions about it though. Now I did search but was just wondering if some of you guys could answer my questions cause i do not have a manual for this bike?

What kind of oil do you put in the gearbox and how much does it hold?

Where is a good place to buy parts from, I need a new rear brake line/air filters/brake pads, I live in Florida if that matters too?

Any info would be much appreciatted, thank you.

The tranny holds 1800cc. Many use Shell Rotella 15w-40 synthetic diesel oil.

Another one mentioned frequently is Amzoil 0w-40 Four stroke oil.

Go Fasters will most likely stock about anything you need. I also got excellent service from Hall's Cycle in IL when rejuvenating my old Husky. I haven't ordered a lot of GG parts from them, but I'd assume they provide similar support for all brands they sell.

Sorry but that must be a typo. The older motors with the counterbalancer like your '98 use a full 1000cc and the newer '05+ 900cc.

Glenn is right... (as usual :p )

Both the 2003 and 2004 Owner's Manuals state clearly in the specs that the tranny capacity is 1800cc. but my 2005 manual says 900cc like Glenn says so it must be typo's in BOTH of the earlier manuals.

My '04 manual has it stated as 1800cc in the table, 1000cc in a box on the oil level page and 900cc in the text.

I use 900cc because any more seems to over fill the crackcase and I can never see the oil line in the sight glass.

I recommend 900cc on a refill.

thanks guys for your help, are the 1998's a good bike? I havent really read anything bad about any gasgas bikes. I guess thats a good thing?
