Hi All,
We have transitioned the old discussion forum off of an ancient version of vbulletin to the much more modern xenforo.

You should be able to log in with your previously used password and username.

If you see an issue - please add to this thread.

We have alot of new things to learn how to use - we also have XenForo Media Gallery, XenForo Resource Manager and XenForo Enhanced Search. Translated that means photos/video, etc. And the resource manager is a place to put app notes and how-to documents... Click on the links above for more details.

Please let me know what you think and Enjoy.

Jeff

Everything looking good so far. Only thing I noticed is the highlight color for the alert dropdown is questionable. Meaning the unread ones get a black highlight that obscures the text. Once they are read, then the hover highlight as you pass over has the same issue.

EDIT: Same issue on the user account page with the highlight color obscuring the text. This could be fixed up in the "EXTRA" file if XF still uses that file to parse the styling before serving the page. I'll keep an eye out for anything else. My XF knowledge is rather out of date.

Thanks Neil

I was playing with the color palette for the existing template and messed that one up. I will experiment and get figure out which setting needs to be modified.

I have been thinking about you. I was wondering what you needed in terms of color backgrounds and text colors to accommodate your color blindness. If the template is user selectable, I can have one loaded for you that meets your needs.

We are using xenforo cloud hosting for this forum - we moved off of my own home webserver set up that served us well for over 20 years. So far, I really like it. Very fast.. There were multiple locations I could choose for where the hosts are geographically located. I chose houston, to make GasGasMan (Girard) happy! :)

Thanks
Jeff

Wow Jeff, you've done a lot of work here!

Thanks for your efforts for all of the Rieju/GG riders!

I fixed the color background obscuring the text. It should be "good" now. Let me know if you don't see the same...

thanks again,

Looks really good! My comment on colors for the ADV Rider forum was aimed at the white text on black background. I just find that it is really tiring to read. What you have here with black on grey is very good (and similar to the VB colors). Your comment on the color palette is interesting. When I set up the local forum in 2008, I found the XF color palette was really bad. There was no explanation of what areas were truly affected by the various combinations. A slight change in one area did some weird things elsewhere. I did force me to get comfortable with template modifications. The XF support forum was very good. I can only imagine how much more complicated the XF software is now. Back then it was a lot of work to create the code changes just for mobile devices. I took on the task with no prior experience.

Using the hosted solution "should" reduce your workload a lot. Thanks for keeping this place going; I know the intial setup and adjustments can be very tedious. I think you'll find it will run very smooth and you'll be able to put your feet up soon.

Found something small. The pinned topics at the start of the topic list could be set apart from the regular topics by a heavier lower border or maybe a 15px gap. Saves starting to look at the pinned topics before realizing they are not the regular topics. Kinda like the differentiation between replies on this page and the reply entry box. Whatever styling works for you.

I made a couple of other changes to clean things up.

For those webserver literate - I added a RewriteRule in an .htaccess file to selectively forward the old links to the new forum pages.

The posts have links to threads that are relative to the old forum software - the forwarding rules in the .htaccess makes these links work in the new environment. So those old posts that say "hey look at these two threads over here" now work... ;-)

I will have to keep the old main website around to make the above work... I will be moving it over to siteground for hosting - that way I can permanently shut down my server at home. This allows me to also shut off my comcast business cable at $150 per month... The new forum setup will be about $75 per month when all is said and done...

Thank you! I have been wandering alone in the world since I lost contact with the old forum. I found back here today, and am happy to se that my favourite forum is back in a new and better form :)

Will this forum be available on Tapatalk? I use Tapatalk at home, and the web interface at work.
