Looking at a 2004 ec300 with ohlins forks. What should i look out for when buying? Does ohlins make a steering damper for gasgas? Thanks for any info you have. Stan

Typical 2T stuff, maintenance is key. Look for rounded off bolts, especially the oil drain bolt (if you can). If I had applied a discerning eye I would have spotted many other items to set me off that the bike was less than properly maintained. Fork caps were mis-matched, rounded off bolts, foot peg brackets repaired, brake pedal mount badly bent, missing lower chain roller, that kind of stuff.

Look for obvious stains from exhaust spooge below the exhaust spigot, as an example. Also, there is a hose coming off the PV actuator cover on the right hand side of the cylinder jug, check that it is routed down and not clogged. Same with the left side, there is a hose coming off the PV cover that should be free and clear.

Inspect carb rubber boots, for cracks and fitment. Look for proper alignment of the airboot to the carb, that can be an issue.

Everything else should be general housekeeping. Oh, ask for jetting info, if it's available it means that the owner spent some time working out the bugs.

I have a Scott's damper on my 2002 300, I can't answer if Ohlins makes one.

Thanks for the reply. Are the ohlins forks the best option for woods riding? Also does rekluse make a autoclutch for a 2004?

I'm pretty sure they were a upgrade option back in 2004, or the bike could have been a SE model back then. I believe certain dealers order a SE model which would have had the Ohlins forks. I am not the duty expert, but from what I remember they were pretty decent when set up properly. As i remember from previous threads the parts were a bit more expensive and also required special tools to service.

As for the damper....you could check out Coppersmith suspension on the web who is a Ohlins dealer.....should be able to help.
Scott, BRP, Motozport, WER should all have something for your taste.

Hope that helps. Plenty of the guys on this forum that can help you out.

Good luck and enjoy.
