I've found my answer.

Disregard below....
After reading lots of good reviews, I just got my new shorai lfx14 in the mail. I am new to lithium ion batteries as well. The box says it was checked October 6 and read 13v. Now the instructions said don't let it get below 13v. I've read a lot of people running their shorai without a charger for a year or two ect...should I go ahead and purchase the charger? I run the bike atleast once a week. Thanks for the help

Just FYI,

I have had my Shorai for 4 years. I never had a problem but I bought the charger about a year ago. The charger just keeps the battery in tiptop shape. With these batteries, if they discharge, they will crank hard until the last bit of electricity, then just go dead without warning. So, you can hit the button once and the starter will spin hard, then you hit the button the second time and nothing. Overall, it is a great battery.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to just run my battery tender Jr. on it(which lots of people do) but I ended up finding the charger for 65$ new.

That shorai charger is a nice piece of equipment. It includes a rubber covered lead that you fold back under the seat. You can simply pull the lead out through the hole in the side of seat and connect to the battery. You don't even need to remove the seat.

I used my rc charger for my battery. For the first few months I used it as recommended. For the last year I realized I never seemed to really drain charge and for the most part stopped using it. They are great batteries!
