Newbie, bugger fuel everywhere!

Guys, I've just bought an 07 ec300, filled it with fuel today for my first ride and it has a serious leak, on investigation it is coming from one of the holes that the radiator shroud screws screw (thses are self tappers, is that correct?) into on the black cover on top of the fuel tank.
On investigation I thought the issue was that there is no connctor between the black tank cover (that the filler cap screws to) and the clear plastic fuel tank and fuel was slopping out of teh tank into the void, but when I checked my 200 it is the same, so what stops fuel slopping out of the clear tank and into the void between it and the black shroud?
Thanks

I just had to plug a leak in one of my shroud mount screw holes. I searched for a while for an epoxy that would bond to this type of plastic and also be fuel resistant.
I used J-B Water Weld. It seems to have sealed well.
I'm not sure about how the black-to-clear plastic seal is made.

I'm a little confused by the design, is the area behind the black top supposed to contain fuel, as there is a seperate neck to the clear plastic tank behind it?

You just fill the tank until it wants to over flow and then all the fuel is where it's supposed to be. The tank is a 2 piece design, the clear section between/below the frame rails is bonded to the top black section that sits on the frame. It looks weird inside because of this design.
I guess it is possible for the clear lower section to unbond and leak. Although it seems like a strange thing to happen because from normal riding theres no force trying to pull the 2 apart.

As for the shroud mounts, they just screw into the black upper. They are pretty well known to pull out and require a fix. Usually just fill it up with some sort of epoxy/jb weld type thing then put the screw back in. I can see someone drilling a new guide hole for the screw and going straight through the tank due to it not being very thick.

What happens to the fuel that overflows from the clear tank?

Should just flow into the black part of the tank, they are just 2 different coloured sections on top of each other, and come sealed all the way around.
I think we may be getting our wires crossed somewhere here, could you please take some pictures and we can try and clarify further.

Ah that explains it, I thought they were two seperate entities, have sealed the hole (and won't be going near it with another self tapper!).
Thanks for the help.

I too am confused by this two part tank as i have not owned my ec 2003 for long and as i was putting fuel into the black part of the tank the level of fuel was not going up in the clear part of the tank, so i now have fuel slopping around in the upper void. Is this right?
