powervalves adjustable??

I really like the Gassers but one thing that appeals to me about the KTM's is the adjustability of the powervalves.

Is it possible to adjust the powervalve on a GasGas?

I don't think there is a built in way to do it, but has anyone come up with a jimmy-rigged method? Like a heavier spring or an extra spring attached to the linkage in some way?

The GG powervalve itself is not adjustable from what I know. However, there are many other ways to tailor the power delivery (flywheel weights, G2 throttle, dual-map CDI, carb needles/jetting, large PV cover volume, exhaust pipe shape, etc.)

I used to own a KTM and the "adjustable" powervalve feature is over-rated in my opinion. Changing the spring preload and/or spring rate on KTMs only changes the rpm at which the valve opens/closes. KTMs 2 strokes tend to have a midrange hit and if you didn't like it, then you could change the spring to smooth out this hit or when it occurred. This is primarily due to the triple taper needle that these bikes come jetted with. For example, my old 200EXC had a completely different characteristic with a single taper needle and G2 throttle cam... smooth controlable power throughout the range.

Just my $0.02, but there are other ways to tailor the feel with better effects.

Cool! Is he selling those? The smoothest 2-stroke I've ever ridden was my old 96 cr250 that I had attached an extra spring to the PV linkage on.

MattR, I had a KTM 200 also once that I put a CEK needle in. It did make the power a lot smoother, but I like playing with the adjustable PV.

Well, when you consider that a used GasGas usually goes for more than $400 less than a used KTM in comparible condition, going with GasGas looks like the better alternative. Even for somebody who wants an adjustable powervalve.

how different are the ktm covers, the idea should be the same, but id imagine every brand has its own pv shape and design that cannot be itnterchanged...

Shim the Gov spring to delay openning rpm. For an old KDX I ground the outside of the spring to soften it, which got her on the pipe a little sooner.

Here's the pic...

TrustyAdjustable Powervalve Cover

This product is simply awesome! You can adjust and control the opening speed of your EC250 or EC300 powervalve... Wayne Braybrook used one when he won HELLS GATE this year when the conditions are very extreme and Trials like where a very flat, trials kind of power is needed.

You can turn the knob fully anti-clockwise to stop the pv opening fully, or clockwise to even speed it up more than standard! All in all a very good product that makes a massive difference to the bikes performance. NEEDS GOOD MECHANICAL SKILLS FOR FITMENT!
