Purpose of slotted clevis on the brake pedal?

I've always wondered why did GG put that slotted clevis between the rear brake pedal and slave cylinder. What is the benefit of the built in pedal movement slop?

It softens the 'feel' of the rear brake.It still works when you need it but on those greasy down hill slopes feathering the brake but not stalling the engine is the go to keep in control.

That's what I thought when I first went to look at the bike. But after closer inspection I could see it was just a GG thing.
