question on axle during bearing change

Im in the middle of swapping the rear wheel bearings, I tried to make a note of everything as I was taking it apart so it will all go back together properly

only one thing Im not sure on, when the collar came out (the bit the axle goes through that sits between the bearings) I saw it has groves at one end but not the other but as this fell out during the bearing removal im not sure what end the groves were at so does it matter?

I don't remember any grooves on mine (perhaps they are there, I don't know) but I don't think it matters.

If I remember correctly the spacer between the bearing goes one way. Can't tell you which way, if its wrong the bearings will bind.

I think your talking about the small spacer that's like a washer that goes between the big and little bearing, I was talking about the tube as it were that goes between the left hand and right hand side bearings if that makes sense!
