Questions about my new xc-e

I have just assembled my first gasgas 2012 xc250e and i have so many questions. Has anyone else had issues? I only have the warrenty card and nothing else? The only way to kill the bike is from a keyed switch,The button on the right (labeled kill switch) is actually the start button. I have a trail tech Hi/low -kill switch that i was planing to install. And was wondering if anyone has done the same?

I wired in an additional switch in order to be able to kill the engine from the handlebars. Word is that the factory recognized their omission and added the kill switch standard in 2013.

I have the same bike and have added a kill switch. There are 4 wires that come out of the key switch, can't remember the colors but you can wire two of them to a kill button and leave the other two on the key switch if you want the key switch to control when the starter button is live. For the kill button you want the two wires that have continuity when the switch is off. Otherwise you can wire the other two together and the start button will remain hot at all times and you can removebtevkey switch entirely, or you can put some other switch between them.

The wiring diagram for the 2011 six days model, I think it was, helped me a lot. You can find it on the gas gas Spain website. Take the key switch off the bike and test the wires with a continuity tester and the key switch in off and on position. You want the two wires, for the kill switch, that have continuity when the key switch is in off position.

handlebar switch issue

A few months a go I asked about eliminating the Keyed switch. After reading
the last thread, I could not bring my self to cut the wiring harness. So I ordered part # ee10000043012 from gasgas. this unit will not plug into my harness either. Mine is an e-start.
not to mention it has turn signal & horn button which I dont need. Perhaps this
the only configuration? Do the 2013s have a similar switch? Thanks in advance.

They should ditch the key switch, as well as the steering lock for US bikes. One more place for water to go, and no need on a race bike. I understand the point for the Euro market where they are street ridden.

Switch issue

GMP,
I agree about the steering lock and the keyed switch. The fellas at motocross center are saying I need a different wiring harness. If i want to plug and play.
No really what I wanted to hear.

I have a 13 and i took off the key switch and e-start the only problem now is the brake lights don't work just have a tail light. Behind the headlight there is a bunch of wires and plugs which I am sure has the brake light wire somewhere in the rats nest

switch issue

Nick,
So you removed the keyed switch along w/ the e-start (completely) ???
I though the 13' didn't have a keyed switch??? E-START that is.

So I have a 12 ec250e, want to remove key, add kill button and have starter hot. I cant figure out the right combo with the 4 wires from the key. Please help in detail if possible. Thanks

I have no info on the newer bikes, but if the key switch is the same as used on the 2011 estart bike, this is how it works:

KEY OFF - yellow/black is connected to yellow/green (grounds the ignition)

KEY ON - red/black is connected to red (allows the start circuit to function)

Those are my wires. So wire the kill switch between the yb and yg im guessing. Will try that when I get a spare moment. Thanks

The 4 wire connector on the wire harness for the ignition switch is a common connector. You should be able to pick one up from a local bike shop. If they don't sell it over the counter they should have a wiring kit in the service dept. If you can get one of these connectors you should be able to wire in your own switches without mutilating the wire harness.

So i removed the key. Wired up a kill switch using 2 wires, yellow/green and black/yellow. Works great.
Then i got a 3 post rocker switch from Napa. Wired the remaining 2 wires, red and red/black to power and load, then grounded to the triple clamp so i have a light lit when in on position.
The cool thing is, i dont need the switch to be on to kick start, in turn the tail light remains off. Turn the switch on and i get a tail light and power to my starter.
The switch also snapped into the bracket the key was in. A little loose so I super glued it so it doesn't vibrate.
