Rear light won't stay on

Hi my rear light on my ec300 2011 works when I pull the brake lever and foot pedal but it won't stay in permanently, when I removed it the red wire is only half intact, would this stop it working permanently ? And just enable it to work
When I pull the lever in ? I don't want to buy a new one if it's an easy fix.

Any ideas would be grate.

What brand of light is it? I don't remember the 2011 bikes coming with a tail light. A regular incandescent bulb has two filaments, running and brake. It sounds like your brake function is working, but the running lamp function does not. Can you power the lamp from a battery to make sure the lamp itself is OK? There may be more wire damage than what you've already found.

If there is water in your harness, that can bleed off enough voltage to prevent the light from working. Wiring issues are usually a connection problem; the quailty of your ground point is also important. The ground should be OK since the brake function works.

If you only have a brake light and it fails to stay on when either brake switch is held on, then having only a few working strands in the wire is your problem. The few strands heat up and fail to pass current when hot. Fix that bad wire first.

Cheers Neil E. The rear light is a standard LED the 2011's come with and it works fine when either brake pedal/lever is engaged, it just doesn't stay constantly.
