RIP "Talking Smack"

Jim Cook

Platinum Level Site Supporter
It saddens me to have to announce that we are going to take the "Talking Smack" forum off-line soon.

Traffic has been dwindling, and the financial drain is hard for me to justify; especially since "Gas Gas Riders Club" is taking such good care of Gas Gas enthusiasts worldwide.

I just didn't want to close "Talking Smack" and not let all the loyal contributors and great moderators know what was going on.
It's been great fun and I've made many friends over the years.

I also wanted to extend a special "Thank You!" to all those who have participated and helped others so much over the years; which allowed "Talking Smack" to become what it was. It wouldn't have worked without you.

I'll still be seeing you all here at the "Gas Gas Riders Club". Let me know if I can ever help anyone with anything at all. I am available through the Private Message and email service here. (I haven't changed my email address.)

Thank you, and take care.

Jim Cook

I check both every day and have noticed a decline in the traffic on "Talking Smack" so I am not surprised by your decision.

What do you guys think of setting up a "Talking Smack" forum here, in honor of "Talking Smack"?

I also check both daily,, and a forum here would be nice..
Thanks Jim,, I hope to ride with you soon as I heal up!
Steve

Maybe rename the "General Discussions" forum Talking Smack?

And thanks Jim for your contribution to GasGas and providing a webspace for GasGas riders!

Hey, I appreciate all ya'll, and will remain within shouting distance. (The internet is a wonderful thing.)

I still hope to ride with you, Steve, and anyone else who can make it down this way. I'm actually riding more now that I'm out of the everyday motorcycle biz.

Good Riding and Best Regards,

Jim

My feelings exactly. Jim has always been a class act and it has been great working with him over the years.

Jim and/or Jeff: Is there anyway to preserve the content of "Talking Smack" for GasGasRiders.org search engine to have access to?

Also can the web address be redirected to GasGasRider.org.

I don't think Gas Gas would have taken off in the US the way it did without Talking Smack. It gave a lot of would be GG owners a place to find out first hand info on the bikes back in the early days of the Gasser invasion. Gas Gas had a pretty poor presence on the web at that time other than Smack.

I'm sad to see it go, but at the same time, I really like what this site has become.

Thanks Jim for getting the ball rolling back then.

I sent Jeff a PM to ask this very same question. I agree it would be nice to have the Talking Smack discussions archived and searchable. All threads could be locked and stored in its own subforum. Hopefully something like this could be worked out between Jeff, Jim, and Jack.

It would be a shame to loose the great history. Also, it would nice to reflect back on the beginnings from time to time.

For my first post here, I'd like to thank Jim Cook for being a class act.

Back in 2000 I organized a "spodefest" out in Colorado. Not only did Jim Cook provide some door prizes for the event, he showed up in Colorado with a trailer full of Gas Gas demo bikes!

I've been away from dirt bikes for a few years, but recently have been working in Southern Arkansas and was saddened to hear that Smackover Motorsports was out of business.

Smackover set the standard for friendly, helpfull dirtbike shops. I miss ordering parts from the Cook's( No offense to Gofasters or Taskys) Hopefully the forum contents can be stored here. I would also love a couple sets of comemerative Smackover fender stickers, any chance someone could have some made?

Jim is a A+ guy and so are his boys, I have spend many hours bench racng with Jim on the phone and ording parts. When I was looking at the GasGas that I was concidering buying from Roostafish, Jim Cook was the guy that convinced that the brand was soild and parts were not an issue.

There is a ton of info over at the current Smackover site and the older site before the RT&T days!

Thanks Jim!
