Scotts damper service?

is that because the damper arm is not long enough? You can get longer arms
That was how I Initially realized it would not work (damper unit is a carry over from my previous bike - kx250 so I knew there was a chance it would not work) but then I started thinking about it and if I use the front holes the centre of the damper arm pivot sits about 20mm infront of the steering bearing centre, this means the arm length (centre pivot to bolt on tower) will change as you turn the bars. Which does not seem right to me

So I have sent scotts an email and will see what they say, but my suspicion is they will say they only have the mount for back holes so I am also trying to enquire about the fastway mount system

Ok you just answered my query to scotts, now I need to find out if they make a top mount that caters for the bars in the front holes, because I did not enjoy having them in the back holes

I use Fastway's F.I.T. system, totally adjustable, plus incorporates the hand guards for clean cable running.

What he said ...

You can see in the pic that the bar clamps are in the forward holes. The sliding plate on the Fastway clamp allows you to mount the pivot directly over the steering head. Standard FW handguards are black with red and white graphics - they'll look sharp on that '10. They are slightly smaller than the EE-style guards Mick has mounted.

A damper like the Scotts must always be mounted with its pivot shaft and the steering stem on the same center. The arm length has nothing to do with it, and is just a function of the tower design and its dimension from center. All that changes for bar position selection is the top bar/damper mount hole position.

Great just add it to the parcel Steve, we just won a decent job so I will start spending the money before I get it!!! (... or even sign the contract!)

To check if the damper is directly above the steering stem.
Remove the damper.
Lay a steel rule or straight edge centered, across the damper mounting holes.
The steel rule should intersect the steering stem evenly.

I checked mine like this and it was off. I had to rotate the bar clamps 180 degrees. They Gas Gas bar clamps have 2 positions on them in addition to the 2 positions on the tripple clamp.
