Sealing Head Bolts -Coolant Leak EC125!

Hi

Just renewed the piston in my EC125 (08) and noticed coolant was passing from one of the front cylinder head bolts. Tried annealing the copper washers and refitted using a torque setting of 18.5lb/ft, found it was still leaking so ordered new copper washers, o rings for barrel and three o rings for the bracket which sits on top of the cylinder head, from gasgas uk, fitted everything tonight and I still have a leak!!

Wondered if anyone else has had the same problems, would you normally use some form of sealant with the copper washers?

No sealant with the copper washers. They are intended to crush and create a ncie seal. Are you sure your torque wrench is calibrated correctly? Have you tried snugging them down with a normal wrench? Are the mating surfaces on the head still nice and smooth with no gouges? Bolts torqued down in a criss cross pattern?

I thought I had a leaking head bolt once. It ended up that a frog has pee'd on it!

Try sealing the threads of the bolt. The bolts go into the water jacket, so coolant could be wicking up the threads. A dab of silicone on the threads might be in order.

are you torquing the head before tightening the upper engine mount?

Thank you for your replies, have now machined the areas where the three bolts and copper washers sit on the stabilizer bracket(previously a cast finish) and problem cured straight away.

Same issue on 250.

I Have a 250 EC that we just put in a new ring. When you kick the bike over coolant pushes out between case and cylinder in the front left corner. Surfaces looked good when we re-assembled, assuming we screwed up gasket or didnt torque tight enough? Any help would be appreciated.

If it's pushing coolant out just kicking it over, then you need to take it apart and see what the issue is. Good chance that it's pushing coolant into the crank chamber as well.
