Shock removal

Strip it. That's what worked for me. Four bolts and a couple of odd pieces for the subframe, about 20 minutes total as I was learning the bike. Pops out straight up from there, installation is the reverse.

Funny you should ask. I just did mine last week.
I sent this to gasgas-HI and it worked for him.

1) remove pipe and silencer
2) remove rear wheel
3) remove bolt for suspension linkage dog bone at swing arm only.Pivot down.
4)remove both shock mounting bolts.
5) raise swing arm up all the way.
6) lower shock to the left side of the suspension bell crank, enough for the shock to clear the upper frame mount.
7) pull the shock out on the right side of bike.

I tried to do it like that, but without taking the pipe off (PIA Hyde!) just the silencer. No joy. What I did do, and is an option that works with the pipe on, is free the spring while the shock is still in place, and remove the damper and spring separately. Since I was sending the shock out anyway this was fine with me.

I tried that and it takes alot longer than swinging the subframe up and out of the way...it's also more work.

i definetly disagree with the more work thing. i can pull my shock and re-install in under half hour by pulling exahust off and pulling shock out the right side. super easy once you do it a few times.

If you don't have a 3rd hand to lift up the swingarm, use a tiedown and winch it up. You jiggle it around until the canister will fit out the gap, it is sort of an up and out. I just did this friday to put on a new spring, get to do it again when my new compression nut arrives. still not a lot of fun compared to the KTM ;)

Its better than pulling the subframe up, IMO. That involves removing the frame guards, and pulling the tank, which involves moving the damper tower on my bike. It adds up. Its not so much pulling it out as it is putting it back and lining everything up again.
