Yes my 07 ec250 had the same problem. The problem was the engagement spring was too weak. As your transmission oil gets dirty it causes drag on the shaft that the engagement gear rides on and the weak spring won't push the two engagement gears together fast enough to interlock. The spring is noticeably weaker than the spring in my 01 xc300.
My 03 seamed alot stronger too. Did you find a solution? Do the earlier model springs fit. I am useing Redline MTL gearbox oil which still slips when new.
mine (07 300) did this & I ended up having to replace the ratchet gear or whatever it is called for the starter. happened in the 1st hour of a 2-day riding clinic w/lots of stops & starts, it made for an aggravating w/e....
I took the spring and gear out of mo 01 xc300 (which is down for other work) and put them in my 07 ec250. If you get a stiffer spring right away you won't have to replace the gear.
How about some input from some of the dealers out there. This is a problem of a bad part (the weak spring) showing up on a significant number of new bikes. Is the factory aware of this and what are they doing about it? The problem of the scorpion (shifter part) has been well known for years but that wasn't fixed at the time GG built my 07 EC250. I know because mine quit shifting until I took the scorpion out and sanded it smooth on the edges (this is a stamped steel part). Don't get me wrong I love my bike and it's been rock solid except these two problems which are easy fixes and show up early when the bike is still under warranty. GoFasters was quick to send me replacement gears for the starter problem and I chose to fix the scorpion myself but I still want to know why bikes are leaving the factory with these two problems.

Have pulled it apart. Both gears are partially striped. My dealer tells me the part no. for the spring is the same for 03 and latter so why are the 07s haveing thi problem. Is there any advantage in stretching the existing spring?
On my 2000 EC300, I had to replace the kickstart ratchet pinion twice due to improperly hardened parts. Not only that, but some of the metal fell between the shiter actuator plates leaving riding out in 1st gear.

yep same thing happended on my 05 gasgas 250 after about 18 months from new , a bit longer than your one lasted , but come on this can't be rocket science can it ?
