Small amount of oil in crankcase

I just picked up a brand new to me 05 ec300. I have receipts showing that it had a complete rebuild in May of last year. New bearings, seals, rod, piston and so on. It has had the head done, Lt power valve cover, and so on. I did my first oil change the other day and pulled the crankcase drain plug by mistake and I got a very small amount of oil out of it. Maybe 5 or 6 drops. Anyone else ever have this happen? My first thought is crank seals but it runs way to good to be burning gear oil AMD the gear oil didn't smell like gas. Help?

Hmm. I guess so but I have never seen oil standing in the crankcase of a 2t. But then again I have never had one with a drain plug in the crankcase

Oil will always be present in the crankcase. Oil vapor coats the surfaces as it passes through the engine. Some condenses and sits at the bottom. It never amounts to much quantity as the crank will pick it up and sling it back into mist.

Memphis2857, I think you and Neil (and everyone above) are right about your assessment... last year I had black transmission oil at every oil change, losing trans oil (put 900 in, got 700 out when drained at oil change time), exhaust spooge all over, and running rich. And yes vacuum from piston going up was pulling trans oil into the crankcase, and I would drain a small amt of trans oil out at each oil change, maybe a few cc's. These are symptoms of leaking R side crank seal (and maybe main case seal?). Changed the right hand crank seal and viola, trans oil clean now, no volume loss at oil changes, and nasty spooging gone, running much cleaner since then...
