So my wife told me that I smelt manly

I decided to repack the muffler of my 300. Sadly I thought to take some pics but didn't.
I somehow decided last time to use some left over silent wool.

Sheet stuff. Doesn't silence very well. But man. It's the most dreadful stuff in a 2 stroke. Took me 20 minutes and then I had to MAP gas torch the remainder. Man it was the worst I've ever dealt with. I really hate this stuff now.

Bought some FMF packing. Looks much better.

Hence smelling Manly ( like burnt 2 stroke oil)

We'll I'll accept that.

You got to start bottling that fragrance!
Would an after shave called '2 stroke ' catch on?

That can be a nasty job, but very worthwhile. I did the FMF sparky on my XC 200. It was just as bad as you describe and the old stuff wasn't steel wool. But whatever it was, it was well baked on. Took some time to get everything cleaned up properly.

Nice results though. A more mellow sound and, I swear, better low end response.

My wife did comment on the smell, but manly wasn't the word she used.:)

That is indeed a messy stinky job but I would rather do that than change old differential fluid.

Spent shock fluid!! Nom nom nom..

Wasn't that long ago I stuck a drop tray with some old suspension fluid under the husky 125 to change the tranny oil. Had it on the triangle side stand (hooks into rear axle). She was done up nice and tight, so tight actually that the torque pushed the whole bike over. With the other hand I tried to hold the bike which pulled me right into my bucket of oil. Flipped it 180, over my shoulders, down the front of me, legs, feet... all over the floor!!

I cleaned it up, put the bike back on a lift stand. It still needs to have the oil changed. :D

Yueek!

Yeah it wasn't steel wool, but that long stringy Silent Sport wool. Came out looking like dreadlocks.

I pulled horse hair out of the silencer of one of my older bikes. Now that was weird
