Speedo problem on my Gasser

I have seen that the thin cable (labeled with power) on the little white connector (one of the 4) was broken.
After this connector is a little circuit protected from black heat shrink tube and then a bigger connector.
Now I sold the thin cables (red & white) with the thicker cables from the circuit directly (black & red) I believe.
The problem:
When I start the bike every segment on the speedo become black.
After pressing the button in the middle everything is fine except all data are delete.
When I stop the bike the clock is running!!
What is the problem.

Speedo wiring

On my 06 EC300, the short piece of wiring you mention between the speedo unit and the loom has a diode and capacitor included within the heatshrink wrap.
I think that this acts as a crude rectifier to feed DC to the speedo instead of AC.

Mine keeps blowing the capacitor as the revs peak out. The capacitor is a 100microfarad 35volt and the diode not sure, maybe a zener diode?

If you have done away with this wiring link then I think you'll be feeding AC to the speedo?

Anyone know if there is a voltage regulator and if so where it is located on the bike and what readings it should give

capacitor

can you buy this piece of wire with the capacitor ? I am having the same problem when the idles goes to low i am loosing the sreww and they only way it is coming back to life and to close all the light .

Can you tell us what it says on the diode / zener diode?

Mine blew both the diode and capacitor when the wires shorted out, insulation on wires broke down. Capacitor is easy to find replacement, but as the diode blew, don't know what to put back to replace it?

Yes this converts ac to dc as a half wave rectifier.

If you connect a 9v battery (pp9) to the spare wires you can make the clock hold its memory. Mine loses the time after about a minute of killing the motor.

What i can see on the diode is : IN40007

I just change the capacitor with a 50 Volt , 220 u .I did a test and it is working fine, will see how long that will last. My diode was fine .
