spring rate suggestions for new 2012 300

I'd try it, may be a hair stiff but if your fast should be good. I'd try dropping the preload to 1 - 2mm. I was talking to Les at LTR today, and the springs for a 48mm KYB twin chamber fit perfect. 44mm x 450mm. Should be plenty of those around if you need them. I'm picking up a set of .44s for mine.

Sweet. Thanks. I just happen to have a 05 YZ in the garage with KYB. Wonder if those springs will fit?? Is it possible to mix a 3.8 and a 4.2?

I've mixed one rate apart in WP43s and Zoke 45s, like a .40 and a .42. Should be OK, but any more different than that I'd be leary of. Try it. Just make sure that the spring is 450mm or so not the open chamber spring that is longer at 460mm, and get the preload right. Too much preload makes the fork feel like crap on trail trash even if the other settings are good, and from what we have been reading that fork doesn't need any exta help staying up in the stroke that you can't adjust with the PFP. I'm pretty sure you need to adjust preload with the ring spacers on the cartridge like the KYB. Get crackin' and let me know, I'm going to be in mine ASAP after it shows up.

After doing a little research the 05 YZ springs won't fit. These models have the correct 44mm x 450mm springs:

Yamaha (YZ125/250 (06-2012)YZ250F (06-2012)YZ450F (06-09)

Word on the street is that these bikes are sprung soft in stock form so will probably work. Stock fork springs are .42.

Yeah if my bike would ever show up I will be able to sort it instead of playing on the internet. It's amazing how far Virginia is from Georgia.................
